I"m Now Convinced Scarlet Witch"s MCU Return Is All But Confirmed
Summary
- Elizabeth Olsen has been reported to be returning to the MCU as Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch in the upcoming Vision series.
- Olsen may join Paul Bettany and the returning James Spader in the MCU's Vision series, though this hasn't been officially confirmed.
- The Scarlet Witch has also been theorized to return in the upcoming Agatha All Along series.
After new reports, I'm convinced Elizabeth Olsen will soon be returning to the MCU as the powerful Scarlet Witch. I have loved watching Wanda Maximoff grow and develop since her live-action debut in the post-credits scene of 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Scarlet Witch's exploration of loss, grief, motherhood and trauma has contributed to her becoming perhaps my favorite MCU character. This was only increased by the Scarlet Witch's transformation into a formidable villain in Phase 4, as this really stressed her complexity, and culminated in one of the MCU's most emotional sacrifices.

After appearing in seven feature films and starring in her own solo series opposite Paul Bettany's Vision, WandaVision, the Scarlet Witch's MCU story came to an end in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I was distraught to see Wanda Maximoff sacrifice herself to destroy Mount Wundagore and the Darkhold, but, despite her confirmed death, there has been a huge amount of speculation about Elizabeth Olsen's return to the MCU. Recent updates concerning Marvel Studios' upcoming Vision series have made me think this could happen very soon.

New Marvel Report Has Me Convinced Scarlet Witch Will Return In The MCU On August 23, Deadline reported that James Spader will be reprising his role of the artificial intelligence Ultron in the MCU's upcoming Vision series, which recently hired Star Trek: Picard's Terry Matalas as showrunner. Spader's return after a decade-long hiatus from the MCU is incredibly exciting, but that wasn't the only information Deadline reported. Apparently, Deadline has also heard of the possibility that Elizabeth Olsen could return as the Scarlet Witch in Vision's series, which makes me think this absolutely will happen.
While the focus is on Vision, we also heard there is a possibility for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to appear, which would make sense given how interconnected the two characters’ stories are in the MCU.
Deadline suggested that the upcoming Vision series would be the final installment in a trilogy that began with 2021's WandaVision and will continue in September's Agatha All Along. This makes me think there will be a huge amount of interconnection between these three shows, and since Agatha All Along's trailers suggest a large, background role for the Scarlet Witch, it makes sense that she'd have a major role in the Vision series, too. I've heard many convincing theories and ideas about how and when Marvel Studios could resurrect the Scarlet Witch.

How Scarlet Witch Could Be Resurrected In The MCU Close Most of the theories concerning the Scarlet Witch's return to the MCU see her brought back to life in Phase 5's upcoming Agatha All Along. I recently wrote a theory pointing to Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness and Joe Locke's mysterious "Teen" possibly coming across Castle Doom in Agatha All Along, which could contain an amnesiac Wanda Maximoff, as it does in Marvel Comics. Agatha seems to have lost her power to the Scarlet Witch in Agatha All Along, so the latter may be resurrected to restore this power, but this isn't the only place Elizabeth Olsen could return.
Elizabeth Olsen's return to the MCU hasn't been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios or Olsen herself.
After Deadline's report, I am all but convinced that Elizabeth Olsen could come back to the MCU in the Vision series, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2026. Deadline didn't confirm whether the same iteration of Wanda Maximoff would be returning, so it's possible that Elizabeth Olsen may play someone new in the Vision series, perhaps even Virginia Vision. I would love to see Marvel Studios' Vision series see White Vision build his own synthezoid family, just like the Scarlet Witch did, though Vision could find another way to resurrect his lost love after having his memories restored.

ActionAdventureScience Fiction Marvel Studios' Vision Quest is a limited series set in the MCU and released on Disney+. It reveals the fate of Paul Bettany's resurrected Avenger, which was last seen fleeing Westview at the end of 2021's WandaVision. After the original synthezoid died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, his body was reassembled by the secret organization SWORD, and his consciousness was restored by Scarlet Witch's magically recreated version of the robot.
