Deadpool & Wolverine"s Short Wolverine Looks Infinitely Better Than Hugh Jackman’s In BTS Photos
Summary
- Luke Bennett's unaltered Wolverine variant on Instagram is a notable improvement over the final film version.
- CGI alterations for characters' appearances in the MCU are not uncommon, as seen with Steve Rogers.
- Bennett's performance as a comic-accurate Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine was well-received.
One Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine looks notably better in a behind-the-scenes photo than he does in the final version of the MCU's record-breaking movie. In the film’s first act, Deadpool travels the multiverse, seeking Wolverine variants to supplant the deceased one in his timeline, sparing it from the TVA. One such Wolverine variant matches the height of his comic counterpart, reminding viewers that in most of his appearances, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is far taller than the character’s original incarnation.
Luke Bennett plays this comic-accurate iteration of Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, though his face is digitally replaced with Hugh Jackman’s in the film. On July 31st, Bennett posted photos of himself in costume as the comic-accurate Wolverine variant on his Instagram page, expressing gratitude for the role and his co-stars. The pictures look noticeably better than the altered version of Bennett’s Wolverine variant onscreen.

6 Why Short Wolverine Looks Better In Deadpool & Wolverine BTS Photos Close The Instagram post received praise, with many commenters noting that Bennett’s unaltered appearance is far better than what ultimately made it to the final film and others expressive interest in seeing Bennett reprise the role, perhaps as the MCU’s next Wolverine.
It is strange that such a simple CGI alteration looked so odd in a 2024 movie, but it is hardly the first time the MCU has altered a character’s face via CGI. In addition to digitally de-aging characters, the MCU notably used a comparable process to give Steve Rogers his pre-Super Soldier Serum body in the Captain America films.
Marvel Studios had a rather complex process for giving Chris Evans his original Steve Rogers form in the Captain America series. Scenes with pre-Serum Steve Rogers were filmed three times, once with Evans, once with his body double, Leander Deeny, and once with no actors. Using CGI, Evans and Deeny were combined to make Steve Rogers’s original form. A similar process may have been used for Bennett’s Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine.
One other Wolverine variant is played by Henry Cavill.
