I Know Exactly How Avengers: Doomsday Should Start
Summary
- Avengers 5 has refocused on Doctor Doom as its villain, leaving questions over what happened with the Council of Kangs.
- The start of Avengers: Doomsday should have Doom killing Kang the Conqueror's many variants shown in Ant-Man 3.
- Ending the Kang storyline and pivoting to Doom establishes the latter as a strong villain, ties loose ends, and repeats Avengers: Infinity War's Thanos trick.
I know how Avengers: Doomsday should start in order to make the best out of the MCU's Multiverse Saga going forward. For years, many were expecting the fifth installment in the Avengers franchise to center around Kang the Conqueror. Given what transpired with the MCU's Kang actor Jonathan Majors, rumors were raised about recasting the character. Instead, Marvel decided to alter the list of upcoming Marvel movies completely. While I am okay with this, there are a few plot threads that I think need resolving so that the refocused plot of Avengers 5 can be fully realized.
The new plot in question comes in the form of Avengers: Doomsday's exciting story. Undoubtedly the biggest shock I experienced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in the two upcoming Avengers movies, officially confirming Kang's Marvel replacement as the Multiverse Saga's villain. Although this update was equal parts exciting and bewildering to me, I nonetheless have faith in the Russo Brothers as MCU directors. That being said, I know how Avengers: Doomsday should start to tie up any loose ends.

Avengers: Doomsday Should Start With Doom Killing The Council Of Kangs Marvel's Previous Villain Needs Dispatching For Good Custom image by Felipe Rangel The loose end in question is the Council of Kangs, established as the primary villains of the Multiverse Saga in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's end-credit scene. At the end of the film, a collection of the strongest Kang the Conqueror variants gathered to address the threat the Avengers pose to their plan. This seemingly set the stage for what was supposed to be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, though Marvel has obviously had cause to change their plans of late.
Pivoting the events of Avengers 5 toward Doom makes sense, especially given the set-up of Avengers: Secret Wars' story. However, it would be unwise of Marvel to do so without addressing what happened to the Council of Kangs. As such, I think the best way to open Avengers: Doomsday is to put audiences in the point-of-view of RDJ's Doctor Doom, establishing his backstory and his plan to dominate the multiverse. This should end – ironically at the beginning of Avengers: Doomsday – with Doom decimating the Council of Kangs, removing the prior Multiverse Saga villain once and for all.

Avengers 5 Beginning With Doom Would Repeat Marvel’s Best Infinity War Trick Doom's Rampage Would Emulate Thanos In The Best Way Close If Avengers: Doomsday began with Doom killing the Council of Kangs, it would be a repeat of Marvel's great storytelling trick from Avengers: Infinity War. The latter movie began with Thanos attacking the Asgardian ship from the end of Thor: Ragnarok. Not only did Thanos' first extended MCU scene detail how he had killed 50% of the Asgardians, a powerful race of people, but it also had him defeating Hulk with ease, subduing Thor with minimal effort, and killing Loki without breaking a sweat.
By pitting Thanos against the most powerful characters in the entire MCU, Avengers: Infinity War immediately set the tone for just how strong Thanos was. This went a long way to demonstrating his threat level and making him the best MCU villain. If Avengers: Doomsday has Doom murdering the Council of Kangs, this will have the same effect. It would give the film the distinctly villainous POV that Infinity War had through Thanos, all while solidifying Doom as a threat worthy of the Avengers' time by dispatching their previous greatest villain with minimal effort in a potentially awesome action sequence.
Avengers 5 Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth Avengers film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will bring together heroes, new and old, to face off against Victor von Doom – played by the returning Robert DOwney Jr.. Avengers 5 will also mark the beginning of phase 6 of the MCU.
