The Mutant era is finally starting to take shape in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kevin Feige confirms the beginning of a new chapter starting with Deadpool & Wolverine.
At the Deadpool & Wolverine press conference Screen Rant attended, Feige opened up on the future of the mutants in the MCU. With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Feige defines the film as "the beginning of" the mutant era in the MCU, sharing the following:
I think every [MCU] movie is important, and the most important thing is a great movie. […] So there's nothing better for a cinematic universe than a great movie coming out. The before and after? I think a lot of people talk about the R-rating – 'Is every [Marvel] movie going to be R-rated after this?' Of course not. But I hope every movie after this embraces its tonality the way Deadpool does and the way this team was able to do on Deadpool & Wolverine. Also, the 'after' is clearly…Now that we have the characters from the X-Men world and the mutants, that we haven’t had access [to] before, I think this is the beginning of that, and everything post-Deadpool & Wolverine will be the mutant era coming into the MCU.
