Henry Cavill"s Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo Is The Closest We May Ever Get To Zack Snyder"s Wolverine Movie Dreams Becoming Reality
Henry Cavill's surprise cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine might have provided a glimpse at what Zack Snyder's dream MCU movie could look like. As well as bringing Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine into the MCU, Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine also introduced many multiversal variants of its titular heroes. The entertaining and hilarious Deadpool Corps included alternate versions of Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth, but Wolverine's variants in Deadpool & Wolverine were more unexpected, and could be game-changing for the MCU.
Hugh Jackman portrayed the "Worst Wolverine" for the majority of Deadpool & Wolverine, but his other variants took inspiration from some of Marvel Comics' more memorable stories. The one-armed Wolverine from 1995's Age of Apocalypse, the gambling Patch from 1988, Old Man Logan, the crucified Wolverine from the cover of Uncanny X-Men #251 and John Byrne's yellow-and-brown-suited Wolverine fighting the Hulk were amazing to see. However, Henry Cavill's cameo as a new Wolverine variant was the most shocking inclusion, and this could lead to Cavill's reunion with his director from the DCEU's Man of Steel.

2 Zack Snyder Wants To Direct A Wolverine Movie In The MCU Close Back in April 2024, director Zack Snyder spoke to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and revealed more about his potential Wolverine movie that he was close to directing "way back when." While Snyder remains coy, suggesting that he wasn't "terribly close" to directing a Wolverine-focused project, he suggests that Logan is a character that he could easily take on with his trademark style. Snyder also noted that picking an actor to play a new version of Wolverine would be a "huge conversation," but Deadpool & Wolverine might have made this a lot simpler.
Henry Cavill Could Reunite With Zack Snyder After His Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo Henry Cavill has worked with Zack Snyder on a number of projects, specifically as part of the DC Extended Universe, in which Cavill portrayed Clark Kent's Superman. Snyder directed 2013's Man of Steel, 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League, the latter after departing from the original Justice League movie from 2017. After Snyder's vision for the DCEU was butchered, and Cavill himself was wasted in the now-rebooted franchise, both deserve superhero redemption.
Related Zack Snyder Accidentally Nailed The One Real Downside Of Henry Cavill’s MCU Wolverine Debut Zack Snyder’s recent comments on Cavill showcases one disappointing thing about his cameo appearance as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine.
3 Zack Snyder's possible Wolverine movie could provide the perfect opportunity for this to happen, especially if Snyder directs Henry Cavill as his version of the character from Deadpool & Wolverine. Cavill's cameo hinted at a more-hardened and darker version of the clawed mutant, which would fit perfectly into Snyder's signature and polarizing directing style. Reuniting Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill for a solo Wolverine-centric movie in the MCU would be fantastic, particularly since this project would continue to explore Marvel Studios' vast and ever-expanding multiverse.
Why Zack Snyder’s Wolverine Movie Would Work Best As A Multiverse Project There has been speculation that Henry Cavill could be featured as the official Wolverine of the MCU after his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine, but his potential future as the hero would benefit more from being set in an entirely different world. Similarly to Channing Tatum's Gambit, who many hope will return for a solo MCU movie, Henry Cavill's Wolverine can do the same. This project could explore the multiverse similarly to Marvel Studios' upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, keeping the Cavillrine separate from the MCU's own X-Men storylines.
Setting this movie in an alternate universe would also give Zack Snyder more free rein regarding the design and structure of the project. Snyder's instantly recognizable filmmaking style, which uses slow motion, long takes, intricate camera work and a noticeably dark tone, is vastly different from the typical Marvel Studios movie. Developing a multiversal movie for Henry Cavill's Wolverine after Deadpool & Wolverine would allow him to explore avenues that Marvel Studios may usually avoid, while developing one of the most popular new additions to the MCU in the process.
