Deadpool & Wolverine’s Box Office Success Makes Another MCU Movie Even More Impressive

Deadpool & Wolverine has enjoyed immense success at the box office since its release. In doing so, it makes another MCU film's run even more impressive than it already was. Avengers: Endgame was a cultural phenomenon like no other and the ultimate peak of the MCU. Even though Deadpool & Wolverine made over $1 billion at the box office, it truly puts into perspective the remarkable box office performance of Avengers: Endgame, something that might never happen in the MCU again.
Avengers: Endgame was the ultimate culmination of everything the MCU had been building towards since the beginning. It almost feels unfair to compare the peak of the MCU with any other movie, but its success doesn't diminish Deadpool & Wolverine. In fact, it makes what the MCU has been able to accomplish for all these years even more impressive. With Avengers: Secret Wars set to release in 2027, it will be interesting to see if the Phase 6 movie can reach those same heights.

1 Deadpool & Wolverine's Huge Box Office Underlines Just How Big Endgame's Is Avengers: Endgame Earned $2.748 billion At The Worldwide Box Office Despite Deadpool & Wolverine being the 8th highest grossing movie in the entire MCU, it is still less than half of what Avengers: Endgame made. That is an astronomical difference and shows just how truly phenomenal the Avengers: Endgame run was. It made almost the same amount in the first three days of its release, something that might never happen again. The demand to see Avengers: Endgame opening weekend was absurd, taking over $100 million more than Avengers: Infinity War which held the record at the time.

There was a moment during Avengers: Endgame's theatrical run when it became the highest grossing movie ever, beating out James Cameron's landmark film, Avatar. Of course, Avatar took back the crown after a rerelease, but the fact that Avengers: Endgame was able to reach that mark is astounding. It truly felt like Avatar might never be challenged at the top spot, but the MCU proved that it is possible. Even when a success like Deadpool & Wolverine comes around, it pales in comparison to what Endgame accomplished.
Why Avengers: Endgame's Box Office Is So High The Movie Was The Culmination Of The Infinity Saga Close Everything perfectly aligned to help Avengers: Endgame to become one of the most successful movies in the history of film. Ten years of building up a faithful audience and teasing the final confrontation between the Avengers and Thanos paid off. It also helps that virtually every film prior to Avengers: Endgame was received well. It allowed the MCU to build up a massive amount of good will before the conclusion of the Infinity Saga.
Avengers: Infinity War was the perfect first half to the final one-two punch of these Avengers films.
It's worth noting that Avengers: Infinity War was the perfect first half to the final one-two punch of these Avengers films. With that ending, anticipation to see how the remaining heroes would deal with everything led to levels of hype that truly felt unmatched by anything else. Couple that with the conclusion of Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America's story arcs, of course Avengers: Endgame became the box office juggernaut it did. It rewarded fans through their 10 years of dedication to the franchise by delivering on all fronts.
Can The MCU Ever Make A Movie As Big As Avengers: Endgame? Marvel Studios Has Some Big Movies On Their Upcoming Slate The biggest question to ask is if there will ever be another MCU film that reaches the absurd heights that Avengers: Endgame did. It's impossible to really tell. Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of a meticulously crafted universe 10 years in the making. That sort of novelty just isn't there anymore, but glimpses of the MCU's post-Infinity Saga potential have been shown by various films in the Multiverse Saga, particularly Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Deadpool & Wolverine.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is also on this list post-Endgame, but doesn't really revolve around the multiverse concept, having just a passing mention of it.
The most successful films after Avengers: Endgame have been the ones that really feature the multiverse in their narratives in some capacity. It's reasonable to assume that any film that has a chance any time soon of getting close to the MCU's biggest grossing movie would be one to focus on the multiverse as well. If Avengers: Secret Wars really is the culmination of this new MCU saga and brings back characters from the entirety of Marvel's film history, like Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman once again, it might have a chance.
Avengers: Endgame was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for shared movie universes, and it paid off extremely well. It's the second highest grossing movie of all time and the biggest MCU movie with almost $700 million more than the next. Deadpool & Wolverine's box office has also been impressive, becoming the best performing Marvel film since Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it's still dwarfed by Avengers: Endgame, showing just how astonishing that film's run truly was.
