A gritty new MCU concept trailer shows just how amazing Marvel Studios' Blade reboot could be, if it can ever get out of its production hell. Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali was first announced to be cast as the MCU's Daywalker back in 2019, but, since then, he's only had one voice cameo as Eric Brooks' Blade in Eternals' post-credits, and hasn't actually been seen in person. The development of Blade's solo MCU movie has been tumultuous, raising questions about whether Blade will still go ahead or not.
After the loss of at least four writers and two directors, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, Blade's future in the MCU is still no more clear than it was when Mahershala Ali was confirmed for the titular role in 2019. However, a new concept trailer shared by KH Studio proves just how impactful, powerful and impressive Blade could be in the MCU's Phase 5. This trailer suggests Blade could explore Eric Brooks' origin story as the Daywalker, and pits him against all manner of monstrous foe, and Marvel Studios could take note.
Blade's Troubled Production Shouldn't Kill It (& This Fan Trailer Shows How It Can Work) Close There have been concerns that Blade's tumultuous production period points to the project potentially being shelved at Marvel Studios. Marvel boss Kevin Feige neglected to mention Blade at this year's SDCC and D23 presentations, despite talking about other movies and TV shows releasing in the coming months and years. While it is indeed possible that Blade could be indefinitely postponed or canceled at Marvel Studios, Feige seems adamant that the project is moving in the right direction (via Blavity TV).
We are committed to the movie, and we're so committed to it that we're not going to make it until it's right. [It] has been frustrating for us and for some fans that it's taken a while, but we have a writer working on it now. I've read half of his new draft, and it's feeling good so far.
The writer Feige is referring to is Eric Pearson, who has previously worked with Marvel Studios on projects including Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Widow, and contributed to the scripts for the upcoming Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Pearson's previous work within the MCU suggests that Blade could become an action-packed adventure for Mahershala Ali. This could reflect the strength and energy of KH Studio's concept trailer, which proves exactly why Blade's development needs to be completed.
1:49 Related Marvel's Troubled Phase 5 Movie Is My Most Anticipated MCU Release in Years The MCU has a solid collection of movies coming out over the next few years, but one with a long, rocky production excites me the most by far.
There is a huge amount of anticipation to see Mahershala Ali finally suit up as Blade, especially after Wesley Snipes reprised his role from 1998's Blade trilogy in Deadpool & Wolverine. Blade has the opportunity to be one of the new faces of the MCU, but many have mistaken Marvel Studios' care and due process with the project as struggle, strife and misstep. Currently, Blade is still scheduled to release in November 2025, though it seems likely this will be pushed back, but there's no doubt that Mahershala Ali's eventual debut as the Daywalker will be incredible and well-deserved.
