Deadpool & Wolverine Didn’t Do Justice To Its Most Incredible Cameo Fight Scenes

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine
Summary

  • Several cameo characters fight each other in Deadpool & Wolverine, but shaky camera work and rushed editing obscures their full impact.
  • Deadpool & Wolverine may have been these characters' last chance to shine in a multiversal battle.
  • Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars may have similar fight sequences starring different Marvel characters, whose fight moves will hopefully be more intelligible on screen.

Deadpool & Wolverine features several exciting fights between minor Marvel movie characters, but unfortunately doesn't show them in their full glory. In an homage to Fox's Marvel movies, Deadpool & Wolverine includes multiple references to pre-MCU Marvel movies such as Daredevil, Elektra, Fantastic Four, and Fox's X-Men movie franchise. Most notably, Deadpool & Wolverine includes multiple cameo characters from previous X-Men movies, like Sabretooth, Toad, Callisto, and Lady Deathstrike.
The Void's heroic survivors stand out due to their charisma and their fighting skills, which allows them to work together to defeat Cassandra Nova's henchmen at her Ant-Man base before Alioth comes to devour everyone. Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Wesley Snipes' Blade, Channing Tatum's Gambit, and Dafne Keen's X-23 killed Cassandra's supporters while Deadpool and Wolverine fight Cassandra inside Ant-Man's skull, and they likely survive Alioth and get transported to Earth-10005, as suggested in Deadpool & Wolverine's ending by X-23's presence in Deadpool's apartment.
Deadpool & Wolverine Obscured Its Variant Fights In The Void Deadpool & Wolverine's Void Characters Were Barely Visible While Fighting Close Once the survivors enter Cassandra Nova's base, they fight Cassandra Nova's followers, which results in exciting battles such as Blade vs. Azazel and Toad, Elektra vs. Psylocke, and X-23 vs. Lady Deathstrike and Juggernaut. These fights would have seemed unlikely just a few months before Deadpool & Wolverine's release, and completely unimaginable just a few years back. Unfortunately, though, most Deadpool & Wolverine's cameo fights were barely visible due to shaky camera work and fast-paced editing.
2:43 Related Deadpool & Wolverine Post-Credits Scenes Explained Deadpool & Wolverine has two credits scenes, so we break down what they both mean for the future and historic legacy of Marvel movies.
1 During the brief moments the combat is visible, it's clear that each individual fight was carefully choreographed. Toad uses his tongue to incapacitate his targets, Lady Deathstrike exchanges blows with other blade-wielding characters, and Jennifer Garner actually pulls off complex moves with Elektra's sais. Yet, almost none of this can be distinguished amidst the chaos. With more time devoted to each shot and less frenzied camera movements, Deadpool & Wolverine's minor characters would have a better chance to shine.
The MCU’s Best Multiversal Battles Are Yet To Come (But Need Better Fight Scenes) Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret Wars May Feature Multiple Variant Battles Although it's a pity that minor Marvel characters may have missed their last chance to star in an exciting multiversal battle, Deadpool & Wolverine isn't the last time the MCU will display this kind of fight sequence. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will likely feature several more Marvel universes, most of them possibly familiar to fans. Therefore, other pre-MCU Marvel characters like Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider and Fox's core X-Men could participate in epic multiversal battles — hopefully more intelligible than Deadpool & Wolverine's Void fight scenes.
