Vince Vaughn's Bad Monkey on Apple TV+ showcases more than just its biggest star, as it also allows another actor among the cast to play a character who's the exact opposite of his persona from a massive 2024 summer blockbuster. The Bad Monkey cast is led by Vince Vaughn, but characters like Ronald Peet's Neville Stafford also play a huge part in the story. Bad Monkey is filled with morally gray individuals, but the main villain is brought to life by an unexpected actor.
Bad Monkey is based on a 2013 book of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. Developed by the Ted Lasso and Shrinking showrunner, the adaptation adds to Bill Lawrence's impressive array of Apple TV+ shows. The cast largely consists of smaller names, excluding Vaughn and a couple of other actors. One of the most interesting castings comes in the form of the story's main antagonist, whose actor was displaying the unquestionable qualities of a hero at the box office less than a month before Bad Monkey premiered.
Rob Delaney Plays The Villain In Bad Monkey, Less Than A Month After His Big Hero Moment In Deadpool 3 Delaney quickly slipped into a bad guy role after Deadpool & Wolverine's release Close Bad Monkey's Christopher is played by Rob Delaney, who played Peter (AKA "Sugar Bear") in Deadpool 2 as well as Deadpool & Wolverine. When the newest Deadpool movie hit cinema screens in July 2024, viewers were treated to Peter riding in and helping during the movie's big battle scene. His part in the fight is limited to arriving and pulling off his mask, but he's comically greeted as a hero by Ryan Reynold's character.
Delaney isn't the biggest name in acting, so his Deadpool character is probably still his most recognizable role.
Delaney isn't the biggest name in acting, so his Deadpool character is probably still his most recognizable role. As such, when his minor – but delightful – Marvel role is immediately followed up by the villainous Christopher in Bad Monkey less than a month later, it quickly makes sure the actor isn't typecast into a specific type of role. While Bad Monkey may be a comedy, it still has a dark and dramatic edge, with Christopher as a big part of the evil goings-on.
Rob Delaney's Summer 2024 Movie & TV Characters Are Complete Opposites Deadpool & Bad Monkey allow Delaney to show off his range Peter and Christopher share nothing beyond a mustache and the actor attached to it. Peter isn't just portrayed as one of the most wholesome and forgiving beings on the planet, he also gets given very little to do in the grand scheme of things. Inversely, Delaney's Bad Monkey character is a major part of the plot in the Apple TV+ show. Prominence in the story aside, there's also the matter of Christopher killing a man almost immediately in Bad Monkey's double-episode premiere, whereas it's impossible to imagine Peter hurting a fly.
