A portion of the score of The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been revealed nearly a full year ahead of the movie's release. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie will be the 37th installment in the long-running superhero franchise and features the debuts of Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Principal photography on the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps began on July 30 with WandaVision's Matt Shakman at the helm.
Screen Rant was present at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, during a panel titled "Music of Marvel Studios," where a snippet of Michael Giacchino's score from The Fantastic Four: First Steps was revealed. See a video of the presentation below:
In total, roughly three minutes of music from the upcoming movie were played as part of the event. The score that was revealed showcases the fact that the music blends the typical triumphant tones of an MCU score with 1960s instrumentation, highlighting the time period in which the movie is set.
Giacchino's Fantastic Four: First Steps Score Cements A Unique MCU Record The Prolific Composer Has Worked With Marvel For Many Years Before composing the music for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Giacchino had already set the record for composing or co-composing music for the most Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. He has previously worked on five MCU titles, including Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Thor: Love and Thunder. This bests rival long-running MCU composers Alan Silvestri, who has four movies under his belt, along with Christophe Beck and Brian Tyler, who have both composed three movies apiece.
Giacchino co-composed Thor: Love and Thunder with Nami Melumad (The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window).
Beck technically ties with Giacchino's six movies if television titles are counted, as he also composed for WandaVision, Hawkeye, and the upcoming Agatha All Along. However, Giacchino's small-screen composition credit for the Halloween special Werewolf by Night, which he also directed, pushes his overall total to seven, cementing his record even more. Additionally, he composed the fanfares for the Marvel Studios' Special Presentations opening, the Marvel Spotlight opening, and the second Marvel Studios opening.
Upcoming Marvel movies could very well threaten this record, with Silvestri returning to compose both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars as of the time of writing. It also remains to be seen if he is asked to return to compose for any future Avengers titles, as he has written music for every installment in the subfranchise except 2015's Avengers: The Age of Ultron. However, so far, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is giving Giacchino an even stronger lead than the one he currently holds as far as being one of the most iconic musical partners for the MCU.
