Henry Cavill"s Last 2 Roles Are Infinitely Cooler Than His Superman Ever Was, Now Give Us More
Summary
- Henry Cavill is moving on from Superman with new exciting roles.
- Cavill's Superman arc was cut short by executive decisions and director changes.
- Despite past controversies, many fans want Cavill to return as Wolverine due to his perfect portrayal in a brief cameo.
Henry Cavill has left Superman in the past, but that does not mean his best is behind him, as the actor has recently had two exciting new roles that show Cavill is headed in a better direction, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe involved. In 2013, Cavill's Man of Steel started the DCEU. Sadly, Cavill would never really get the chance to show his full potential as Superman, with executive decisions leading to his Clark Kent being sidelined for years, and when the actor finally seemed to once again have a future at DC, that was taken from him.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the co-CEOs of the new DC Studios, they brought a new vision for the franchise. The new DC Universe replaced the DCEU, with Cavill leaving as Clark Kent to make way for David Corenswet's Superman reboot. Cavill has left his two biggest franchise roles, with Corenswet taking over as Superman and Liam Hemsworth assuming Cavill's place as Geralt of Rivia on Netflix's The Witcher. While Cavill's career is facing important changes, the actor's two major recent roles tease a cooler future for him than his Superman ever was.

Henry Cavill's Wolverine & Gus March-Phillipps Were Darker & Cooler Than Superman The Man Of Steel's Arc Was Unfinished Close It is often said that Cavill's Superman was extremely dark. While the hero was indeed involved with darker stories than Superman usually is, the DCEU's Clark Kent was stopped from fully going down the road director Zack Snyder had planned for the character. With Snyder phased out of the DCEU after The Avengers director Joss Whedon came in to undersee controversial reshoots on 2017's Justice League, his plans for Cavill's Superman were let go. As such, Superman had a short-lived dark journey before being brought to the light in Justice League, with no black suit involved in the theatrical cut.
With Superman behind him, Cavill is showing that there might be a new style of character that suits him better. The actor was excellent in Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, playing the lead role in the over-the-top spy comedy. Cavill's character fought viciously, tearing down enemies and having fun while doing so. More recently, Cavill played Wolverine in one of the most shocking cameos of Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine. Both of the roles had Cavill at his best, no matter their size, with the actor looking badass and having impactful scenes.
2:30 Related Zack Snyder Is Right, DC Should Have More Henry Cavill & I Know The Perfect Role For Him In James Gunn's DCU Zack Snyder commented on Henry Cavill"s Deadpool & Wolverine cameo and his Superman, and I agree with what he said, as the new DCU could use Cavill.
13 Everyone Wants Henry Cavill To Return As Wolverine Hugh Jackman Can't Keep Doing It Forever Close Despite his Superman being involved in some controversies, Cavill remains a popular and beloved actor. That was once again proven by the overwhelmingly positive response to his cameo as Wolverine in the MCU's Deadpool & Wolverine. Cavill had been one of the most popular candidates among fans to play the new Wolverine when Hugh Jackman retired. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Cavill showed that he is the perfect replacement for Jackman, playing a variant of Wolverine that looked extremely accurate to the mutant's characterization — cigar included — and having a fun action scene, though it was brief.
The cameo was enough to leave fans yearning for more. After what happened with John Krasinski only playing a Reed Richards variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it would be a shame if history repeated itself, with Cavill not having a shot at playing Wolverine again. At 41, Cavill could play Wolverine for the next decade in the MCU, and since Logan is a character whose actor's age actually fits him the older they get, Cavill and Marvel could make the fans' wishes come true — again.

1 What Are The Actual Chances Of Henry Cavill Returning As Wolverine Or Gus March-Phillipps? Not The Best Close While a very entertaining movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare did not do well at the box office. Cavill's first project with Guy Ritchie amassed only $27.5 million worldwide against a reported budget of $60 million. With marketing costs and more doubling the movie's cost for the studio, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has sadly become a box office bomb. As such, it is hard to imagine Cavill getting to have fun again as Gus March-Phillipps in a sequel. That said, there is a little more chance that Cavill will get to come back as his Wolverine, aka the Cavillerine.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke about recasting Wolverine, claiming it would have to be "in a very different style and in a different way." As Cavill's Logan acted and looked similar to Jackman's, it is unlikely that he will be the MCU's Wolverine, but the actor could still get a bigger role as his Logan variant during the MCU's Multiverse Saga. Henry Cavill showing the same grit and action skills he did in The Witcher as Wolverine would make everyone forget his Superman, even if for a single multiverse movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine R A follow-up to the highly successful Deadpool and Deadpool 2 films starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. The third film will be the first in the franchise to be developed under the Marvel Studios banner following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
