James McAvoy has addressed what it would take for him to come back as Charles Xavier after not appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting ready to introduce its new version of the X-Men, but before that, Deadpool & Wolverine's surprise characters included several actors from Fox's X-Men movies for one last adventure. Despite his character being mentioned in the film, McAvoy's Charles Xavier was nowhere to be seen, and the actor has revealed if he would be open to coming back as Professor X.
Speaking to Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con for his new movie Speak No Evil, James McAvoy gave an exciting answer as to whether he would like to return as Charles Xavier. According to the actor, he would be open to it if there was a good script. McAvoy revealed he would prefer it to be "a new, different reinterpretation or newly explored version" of the leader of the X-Men. The star does think Marvel's upcoming movies have moved on though, but does not close the door on a possible return as Professor X. Check out the full quote below:

Screen Rant: James, a movie called Deadpool & Wolverine came out over the weekend. Your character's name got dropped plenty of times, and I think Emma Corrin kind of resembles you a little bit.
James McAvoy: Yeah, I think Emma Corrin looks like a kind of AI creation of me. When I've seen people do AI versions of me online, it looks a bit like Emma Corrin in that film.
Screen Rant: Would you be interested in reprising your role as Professor Charles Xavier, either as the Fox version or a new reinterpreted version for the MCU?
James McAvoy: Listen, for me as an actor, if I'm going to go back and play a character I've already played? I would want to be a new, different reinterpretation or newly explored version or something like that. The only thing that makes me take any job is whether the script's good, and whether the character's interesting, and that would have to be the case. It would also have to be the case that I got offered that, so that's completely hypothetical.
But I feel like they're moving on, they're doing new things, and they're going to do great things. They always do. But I would never say no to something if I've not seen a script, and I would never say yes to something if the script was really bad.

4 How And When James McAvoy Could Return As Professor X In The MCU There Is A Perfect Movie For McAvoy's Marvel Comeback Close After Deadpool & Wolverine's ending set up a few possible mutant returns for future MCU movies, there is a chance that Marvel Studios is not done yet with the Fox Marvel universe. Sure, Deadpool & Wolverine was a love letter to that era of films, but with the Multiverse Saga still having a few major releases on the way, iconic characters like Charles Xavier and Magneto would be unlikely to appear if Marvel were to wait to introduce the new version of the X-Men.
