I"ve Worked Out How Marvel Can Fix Two Major Scarlet Witch Problems With 1 MCU Release
Summary
- Scarlet Witch should have a solo movie to redeem herself after being portrayed as a villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
- The Scarlet Witch's image needs fixing, and a solo movie could provide the time and focus necessary for her redemption arc.
- Agatha All Along may not be the best place for Wanda to return to life due to other plot focuses.
I know how Marvel can bring back the Scarlet Witch and solve two major issues with a single Marvel Cinematic Universe release. Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch properly debuted in the MCU in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since then, the character has gone through quite a few transformations, going from an Avengers villain to a member of the team to a villain yet again. Like many Marvel fans, Disney+'s WandaVision helped Wanda Maximoff jump quite high on my list of favorite MCU characters, with Olsen leading one of the best MCU TV series.
After Wandavision ended with Olsen's character embracing her Scarlet Witch persona, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured Wanda as its main villain. In the end, Wanda realizes the error in her ways and seemingly dies while destroying the evil Darkholds across the multiverse. Recently, the first Agatha All Along trailer confirmed the Scarlet Witch's fate in-universe, with Wanda currently being dead. Given the character's popularity and Olsen's desire to do more with Wanda, I don't believe she will stay dead for long, and I have just the perfect MCU project for her to be resurrected in.

I Want A Scarlet Witch Movie In The MCU The Possible MCU Film Could Also Be Announced Soon Close After almost ten years in the MCU, I want to finally see Olsen lead a Scarlet Witch movie. WandaVision showed the world that Wanda is a character who deserves to be in the spotlight, and with her having to come back from the dead in whatever MCU project she appears in next, I think there is no better place to do that than in a solo movie. In 2022, Olsen commented on a Scarlet Witch solo movie, saying that after a break from the character, she would be game for a Scarlet Witch movie with "a good story to tell."
Olsen's last time as Wanda Maximoff in live-action came in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with the actress also voicing multiverse variants of Wanda in What If…? season 2. Olsen could now return to the role in grand style, with a Scarlet Witch solo movie allowing the most time to explore Wanda's return to life and set her up for a major role in the Multiverse Saga going forward. I even think that we could get an announcement soon, with Marvel Studios possibly revealing the highly requested Scarlet Witch movie this month at San Diego Comic-Con.
Related 10 MCU Movie Announcements & Reveals I Want To See At SDCC 2024 With Marvel Studios reportedly set to appear at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, there are a few movie announcements and new details that I hope we"ll get.
1 I Don’t Think Scarlet Witch Should Come Back To Life In Agatha All Along Wanda Deserves A Bigger Stage Close Agatha All Along's first trailer touched on the Scarlet Witch's death, with Aubrey Plaza's character talking to Agatha about it, saying, "That witch is gone, leaving you trapped in her distorted spell." Wanda was always bound to be part of the show in some way, as Agatha Harkness was last seen when the Scarlet Witch trapped her in a spell in Westview. While that could potentially lead to Wanda returning to life in the series, I don't want to see it happen. I think Agatha All Along will be too busy to give Wanda's return the focus she deserves.
I think the theory that Joe Locke is playing Billy Kaplan, one of Wanda's reincarnated sons, would make for a better connection to the Scarlet Witch than if Agatha All Along would try to resurrect her. The MCU TV show will be focusing on Agatha reclaiming her life and starting her own coven of witches to recover her powers. Based on that setup, I think Wanda coming back would have to get relegated to a season finale reveal. I don't think that would be good enough for the Scarlet Witch, and a solo movie is the best way to go.
Related The MCU Just Introduced A Way To Bring Back Scarlet Witch The new trailer for Agatha All Along introduces a very exciting means to potentially bring Wanda Maximoff"s Scarlet Witch back from the dead.
Marvel Studios Needs To Undo The Damage Done To Wanda The Scarlet Witch Needs To Be Redeemed Close Another reason why I think Marvel should give the Scarlet Witch a solo movie is because it would be the best way to redeem her. After WandaVision followed Wanda Maximoff's MCU tragedy, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made her a full-on villain again, which was a controversial decision. Instead of having Wanda deal with her trauma and come out of it a better hero, the MCU chose to make her a genocidal villain who hunts a teenager across the multiverse.
Only the time and focus that a solo movie allows could help fix the Scarlet Witch's image. A Scarlet Witch movie could start with her coming back to life and following Wanda as she makes amends for her actions, perhaps joining Doctor Strange in his mission to stop incursions, which creates a new role for Wanda in the Multiverse Saga. The upcoming Avengers movies will be filled with characters, so a solo movie is the best place for Wanda's redemption to happen. With Olsen wanting Wanda to be redeemed, I think a Scarlet Witch movie needs to be a priority.

WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first TV show on Disney+, first aired in 2021. The series kicked off the MCU’s Phase 4 and brought back Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany as Vision. WandaVision strayed away from Marvel’s typical formula, this time formatting itself more like a classic sitcom as Wanda struggles to cope with the death of Vision.
