How WandaVision"s Sequel Can Finally Set Up The Scarlet Witch Solo Movie Every Fan Wants
Summary
- Scarlet Witch could finally get her own solo MCU movie after the events of WandaVision and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
- Agatha All Along might provide insight into Wanda Maximoff's return, hinting at a potential revival through the Witch's Road storyline.
- The MCU's upcoming supernatural projects, like Blade and Ghost Rider, could also be a perfect place for the character's prospective return.
Two years after her death, Scarlet Witch can still get the solo MCU movie she deserves now that WandaVision's sequel, the Agatha All Along show, is imminent. Wanda Maximoff's tragic MCU timeline drew to a close in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when her villain arc culminated in her apparent death on Mount Wundagore. After recognizing the error of her ways following a multiversal rampage inflicted by the Darkhold's influence, Wanda brought the Darkhold Castle down around herself, destroying every variant of the powerful MCU artifact and herself in the process – or so it seemed.
There have been no mentions of Wanda Maximoff since her fateful decision in 2022, but this is all about to change. The trailer for Agatha All Along dropped on July 9 and offered a closer look at Agatha Harkness' upcoming exploits in the wake of WandaVision and the time she has spent trapped in her own personal hex courtesy of Wanda. With the trailer already mentioning Wanda by name, there is little doubt that she will be linked to Agatha's solo foray into the MCU timeline. The good news is that this could even develop into a much larger return.

Marvel Fans Want A Scarlet Witch Movie Close Wanda Maximoff's MCU story ended rather abruptly. Her apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came after the briefest window for redemption, and with no satisfying nor lasting consolation for the unfathomable tragedy she has endured throughout the MCU. Because of this, fans have been clamoring for Wanda to get the solo movie she deserves after weathering so much adversity for years. Furthermore, Scarlet Witch's major MCU appearances have proved time and again that she is one of the most compelling characters in the franchise.
Tragedies Wanda Maximoff Experienced In The MCU
Major MCU Appearance
Tragic Event Endured
Avengers: Age of Ultron
HYDRA captivity and the loss of her brother, Pietro.
Captain America: Civil War
Inadvertently killing civilians and expediting the Sokovia Accords.
Avengers: Infinity War
Forced to kill Vision only for it to be rendered pointless.
WandaVision
Created a loving family with two children, only to give them all up.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Corrupted by the Darkhold, forced to recognize she can't be with her children, and killed.
This enthusiasm has no doubt fueled rampant rumors that a solo Scarlet Witch movie is already in the works. WandaVision remains one of the best MCU shows on Disney Plus, yet this and her surrounding MCU appearances barely scratch the surface of Wanda's story in Marvel Comics. Her self-titled comic book run is one such story that the MCU could feasibly adapt. It already looks as though Agatha All Along is poised to delve into one prominent component of that particular arc, however, potentially precipitating Wanda's return in a more minor capacity.
Wanda's children are Wiccan and Speed and are likely to join the MCU's Young Avengers, a team currently being put together by Kamala Khan, which suggests that some kind of reunion with their mother is somewhere down the line.
Scarlet Witch's Return Could Still Happen In Agatha Close The Agatha All Along trailer already mentioned Wanda Maximoff by name in a scene that shows it materializing in red ink on a card that Agatha – who is still embodying a TV persona – inspects. This, along with the black fingertips on the corpse that the Darkhold-influenced Scarlet Witch exhibited in her most recent appearance, hints heavily that Wanda herself will reappear in the show. Later in that same scene, Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal references "that witch" – Wanda – when imploring Agatha to break free of the spell she is still trapped in.
Related The MCU Just Introduced A Way To Bring Back Scarlet Witch The new trailer for Agatha All Along introduces a very exciting means to potentially bring Wanda Maximoff"s Scarlet Witch back from the dead.
It is later revealed that Agatha intends to travel the Witch's Road in order to reacquire the powers she lost to Wanda in WandaVision. This road originated in the Scarlet Witch run of Marvel Comics, in which it is revealed to be a realm only inhabitable by practitioners of magic. The comic depicts Wanda traveling the road with the spirit of Agatha guiding her as they face myriad mystical challenges.
Evidently, this is not what will transpire in Agatha All Along. Instead, Agatha and her coven appear to be undertaking the supernatural challenges of the Witch's Road with decidedly terrifying results. Nevertheless, with what appears to be Wanda's corpse and the knowledge that she is dead in mind, the show may be poised to feature Wanda's spirit in lieu of Agatha's. Alternatively, Wanda may only be mentioned and not revived.
Where Else Scarlet Witch Could Return In The MCU Close The fact that the Agatha All Along trailer refuses to reveal what's beneath the sheet that covers the corpse is telling. There is no confirmation that Elizabeth Olsen has joined the Agatha All Along cast, which may suggest that her potential involvement is being saved as a surprise. It may also suggest, however, that she will not appear at all outside of name-drops.
Regardless, Scarlet Witch's reappearance in the MCU requires her revival. Agatha All Along might show that Scarlet Witch escaped her impending doom by traveling to the realm of the Witch's Road, restoring her to the MCU fold by its conclusion. Just as likely, however, is Wanda's reappearance down the line in several upcoming MCU projects.
Vision's Solo Show Could Reunite Vision And Wanda It was recently confirmed after months of uncertainty that Vision's solo MCU show is forging ahead with Star Trek: Picard's Terry Matalas as its showrunner. This show was previously entitled Vision Quest, though recent confirmations have shied away from an official name. Story details remain scarce, although its protagonist – White Vision – declared himself to be the true Vision before disappearing in WandaVision, suggesting that his restored memories will include his late lover. Wanda, then, may reappear as part of Vision's quest to revive her.
Wanda Is Tied To Marvel's Supernatural Stories While it is currently mired in development struggles, Blade will debut its supernatural eponymous hero when it releases. Along with the MCU's sorcerers, Agatha and her coven, Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing, Blade will bolster the MCU's paranormal contingent, which is arguably squarely where Wanda also belongs. It therefore remains feasible that Wanda could reappear in any one of their upcoming installments.
Ghost Rider is also rumored to be in development for the MCU, adding to the list of potentials.
A Wanda Variant Is Likely To Appear In An Upcoming Avengers Movie Whether it is Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars, the Multiverse Saga's climactic team-up movies are especially liable to introduce multiversal variants of myriad characters that have otherwise left the MCU. If Earth-616's Wanda remains dead, then there is every chance her variant could appear alongside Tony Stark's, Natasha Romanoff's, and Steve Rogers' when universes collide in either Avengers movie. This would, at least, offer the MCU a chance to give Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda a less divisive sendoff.
The MCU's X-Men Can Embrace Scarlet Witch's Mutant Roots Fox still owned the rights to Marvel's mutants when Scarlet Witch and her brother, Quicksilver, were first introduced to the MCU. Because the two are also Avengers, they could be included in the franchise so long as it tiptoed around their comic-accurate origins. Now that mutants are back in Marvel's possession, there is no reason why Marvel can't embrace Scarlet Witch's mutant origins in the MCU's upcoming X-Men projects, which are likely to occur after Avengers: Secret Wars rounds out the Multiverse Saga and possibly brings back long-dead MCU characters.
Agatha All Along Agatha Harkness, after the events of "WandaVision," seeks to regain her magical powers. Joining forces with unexpected allies, including the son of an old adversary, she battles new mystical threats while uncovering hidden secrets in the magical realm.
