Amongst all of the unresolved plotlines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some are best left forgotten. The MCU is a complex franchise that showcases how the lives of superheroes intertwine with each other. This makes for beautiful solo stories as well as epic team-ups like Avengers: Endgame.
However, the sheer amount of stories in the MCU does mean that sometimes plots get forgotten. From post-credit scene set-ups that go nowhere to bigger plot points that just aren’t relevant anymore, there are a number of reasons why the MCU would choose to abandon a plotline. For most of these plot details, they are minor enough in the grand scheme of things that Marvel would be better off just forgetting them for good.
1 HYDRA's Stolen Pym Particles Scott Lang has come a long way since the first Ant-Man movie, going from being a novice superhero to teaming up with the Avengers to save the universe. In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, he even defeated the cosmic threat Kang the Conqueror. Many likely would’ve forgotten about Ant-Man villain Darren Cross if he hadn’t reappeared as MODOK in Quantumania, so it’s not surprising if the name of minor villain Mitchell Carson doesn’t ring a bell.
Carson was an undercover HYDRA agent who wanted the Yellowjacket suit in Ant-Man. However, after his deal with Cross was interrupted by Scott, Carson escaped with a briefcase full of Pym Particles. Those stolen Pym Particles have never been brought up in the MCU since then and while it could’ve been an interesting plot line with HYDRA’s misuse of them, HYDRA simply isn’t the force they once were in the MCU anymore. The MCU has moved on, and there’s no point for them to call back to a disbanded terrorist organization or a minor Ant-Man villain.
2 Pip the Troll Eternals is one of the MCU’s more experimental films with an all-new team of heroes being introduced. To this day, one of the biggest talking points from Eternals is the mid-credits scene as it introduced international popstar Harry Styles into the MCU. Styles played Eros, another Eternal and Thanos’ brother. When he met Thena, Makkari, and Druig on the Domo, he had his assistant Pip the Troll by his side.
Pip the Troll is generally considered one of the most poorly-rendered VFX characters in the MCU, with him looking completely out of place in the Eternals mid-credit scene. Director Chloe Zhao is known for her beautiful cinematography and for bringing an indie-film quality to Eternals, so the poorly-rendered Pip would simply look out of place if she were to return for a sequel. He does have quite a bit of comic history that the MCU could play with. Realistically though, the studio will choose to focus on Styles’ Eros, and he likely can do without his assistant narrative-wise.
3 Who Bought Avengers Tower? The Avengers Tower was an iconic location in the early MCU. What started as the Stark Tower, Tony converted it into the Avengers Tower after the forming of the superhero group. In 2015, Tony relocated the team to the Avengers Compound upstate, still utilizing the Tower for a bit before ultimately deciding to sell it. Though Happy Hogan was seen shipping out the Tower’s inventory in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was never said who the new owner was.
