Although Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was his mentor, Spider-Man (Tom Holland) has proved himself on more than one occasion to be a unique hero in the MCU. Having been recruited by Tony Stark to help apprehend Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker's career began alongside the Avengers. As a result, he was initially seen as the MCU's next Iron Man. However, there are multiple instances where Parker revealed himself to be quite distinct from the Armored Avenger, especially after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
With Peter Parker serving as the chosen protégé of Iron Man, Tony Stark clearly saw himself in Spider-Man. Of course, this is quite evident as both heroes are incredibly inventive while also having the desire to protect those they care about at all costs. That said, they're by no means identical.
