Tom Hiddleston"s Lady Loki Casting Choice Would"ve Fixed An MCU Mistake That Lasted 9 Years

Summary

  • Actor Tom Hiddleston previously suggested that Jaimie Alexander, who played Lady Sif in the Thor films, could have portrayed Lady Loki in the MCU.
  • Lady Sif, despite being a key character in Thor's MCU journey, was often sidelined and not given enough attention in the live-action franchise.
  • Jaimie Alexander likely didn't play Lady Loki because it would have confused audiences, and it made more sense to cast someone new for the role of the female Loki variant, Sylvie.

A female variant of Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief debuted in Phase 4's Loki, but the actor previously predicted someone else would assume the role, and this may have solved an issue with one brilliant supporting character in the MCU. Tom Hiddleston is quickly becoming one of the MCU's longest-running actors, having appeared in nine Marvel Studios projects over a span of twelve years, debuting in 2011's Thor and returning in Phase 5's Loki season 2. Loki has seen more development than many characters in the MCU, culminating in him coming face-to-face with multiversal variants of himself in Phase 4, including a female variant adapted from Marvel Comics' Lady Loki.
During Marvel Comics' Ragnarök event in 2004, Loki was killed in battle with Thor, only to return in 2008 with a new female form. However, instead of simply coming back to life, Loki adopts the form of Lady Sif, Thor's close ally and long-time love interest, though retains all of Loki's personality, skills, and evil intentions – even going so far as to seek the help of villains Doctor Doom and Hela. This storyline in Marvel Comics informed Tom Hiddleston's choice as to who could portray Lady Loki in the MCU, as he suggested during an interview with Screen Rant that Lady Sif actor Jaimie Alexander could have assumed the role:

Oh, that's a good question. We know that in the comics he comes back in the body of Sif. So I say the first obvious port of call is Jaimie Alexander.

Jaimie Alexander Playing Lady Loki Would've Fixed The MCU's Lady Sif Problem Jaimie Alexander debuted as Lady Sif in Thor, alongside the God of Thunder and the Warriors Three, returned to the role in Thor: The Dark World, and even made several guest appearances in Marvel Television's Agents of SHIELD. Despite Sif being a key character in Thor's MCU journey, the Asgardian warrior was never really done justice in the live-action franchise, with her often being sidelined to shed more focus on Thor and Loki. This was repeated with Lady Sif in Phase 4's Thor: Love and Thunder, which saw her return after a hiatus in Thor: Ragnarok, only to be injured and mostly ignored throughout the majority of the divisive film.
