I"m Now Convinced Moon Knight Season 2 Is More Likely To Happen After MCU Future Confirmation

Summary

  • Moon Knight will return to the MCU in the final season of a Marvel Studios series.
  • Changes in Marvel TV operations have led to a slowdown, potentially impacting Moon Knight season 2.
  • Moon Knight's season 2 chances rise with a push for darker themes, possibly obtaining a TV-MA rating if it happens.

Moon Knight is finally set to appear in a new Marvel Cinematic Universe project, and that makes me hopeful for Oscar Isaac's return in Moon Knight season 2. Isaac made his MCU debut back in 2022 with Moon Knight season 1. The Disney+ series only released six episodes, which currently stand as all there is of Moon Knight in the MCU. I think that it is far too little, with Moon Knight being a rich character who could play a big role in the street-level and supernatural corners of the franchise, appearing in upcoming MCU movies and shows.

There has been a creative overhaul, with Marvel Television now overseeing shows that will have longer development pipelines and counting on traditional showrunners to guide them. Marvel has also put a slowdown into effect when it comes to its shows and movies, releasing fewer projects per year. I think that needed to happen, as the changes could lead the MCU back to its glory days. Thankfully, Moon Knight will return in What If…? season 3 at least.

Moon Knight’s What If…? Season 3 Episode Sounds Amazing The Character Will Interact With Other Heroes Close Marvel Studios had two major presentations this year to talk about some of the studio's most anticipated projects. While San Diego Comic-Con's Marvel panel focused on upcoming movies, D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event was where Marvel Studios did a deep dive into the slate of live-action and animated TV shows. Exclusive trailers and looks at projects like Daredevil: Born Again, X-Men '97 season 2, and more were revealed. I loved most of the Marvel TV news that we got, and I was ecstatic to finally see Moon Knight return to a Marvel project.
What If…? season 3 will end the animated show — which I think is far too early. Marvel showed new footage from the animated show's final season, revealing a few stories that fans will see, such as Moon Knight's return. I am very excited about the episode he will appear in, as Moon Knight will be part of a sort of Avengers team, which also includes Sam Wilson's Captain America, Monica Rambeau, and others. The team will use mechs to fight gamma monsters. That sounds fantastic and a good bit of multiverse fun for Moon Knight before a season 2 return.

I Can’t Believe We Have Gone 2 Years Without Moon Knight Season 2 Confirmation The Disney+ Series Was Quite Good Close Moon Knight season 1's final episode aired on May 4, 2022. It has been more than two years since the show's latest episode and there is still no confirmation that Moon Knight season 2 will happen. I think it's mind-boggling that Marvel has not yet confirmed the return of Isaac's MCU show, even if a date for the series' second season were to be held until later. Moon Knight was received positively by critics and fans, with the show's Rotten Tomatoes score standing at 86% by critics and 89% by the audience.
I had my issues with Moon Knight season 1's finale, namely the fact that Marvel decided to skip the climactic fight by having Marc Spector wake up after Jake Lockley pretty much beat Arthur Harrow.
I was among those who enjoyed Moon Knight season 1. I think Isaac was pitch-perfect in the role, delivering a nuanced performance that succeeded in making every different alter of the character unique and interesting to follow. Steven Grant was sweet and funny, while Marc Spector had a lot of anger and guilt from his past. Moon Knight season 1's ending also gave fans the first look at the character's third personality. After being teased for a whole season, Jake Lockley finally appeared, showing his ruthlessness as he shot Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow for Khonshu.
While I had my issues with Moon Knight season 1's finale, namely the fact that Marvel decided to skip the climactic fight by having Marc Spector wake up after Jake pretty much beat Arthur, there are many interesting paths that season 2 could explore with Jake Lockley and Khonshu working together without the other two alters' knowledge. With Moon Knight appearing in What If…? season 3, I think that the hero getting season 2 is more likely. The possible positive reception to the character in the animated multiverse series could help move Moon Knight season 2 forward.

I Know How Moon Knight Season 2 Can Top Season 1 Marvel Needs To Make One Fundamental Change Close Before Moon Knight premiered, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased how the show's action was bloody and violent on a level the MCU had never really done before. While there were some nice fight sequences in the show, I found that statement to be mostly unfounded, as Moon Knight was pretty much like some other MCU projects in the action department. That is why I believe one of the easiest ways for Moon Knight season 2 to top season 1 is to go all-in on the character's darkness, with Marvel making the new season TV-MA.
When Moon Knight came out, the MCU did not have any adult-oriented projects, so the series was not allowed to be as dark and violent as the character asks for. However, that has now changed. Echo was the MCU's first TV-MA series, and judging by Daredevil: Born Again's D23 trailer, it seems it will follow suit. Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU's first R-rated movie, has just passed $1 billion worldwide, making the case for more mature projects from Marvel. Based on those examples, I think Moon Knight season 2 has a good chance of being rated TV-MA if it happens.

Where Moon Knight Could Appear In The MCU If Season 2 Doesn’t Happen? There Are A Few Possible Projects For The Hero Close Besides What If…? season 3, if Moon Knight season 2 ends up not happening, I still think Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight could have a long future in the MCU. The character would be perfect for both street-level and supernatural projects. With Mahershala Ali's Blade movie in disarray, I feel bringing in Isaac's Moon Knight could help move things along and get fans excited about the long-gestating film again. The two characters could also be part of a supernatural team, with a Midnight Suns project making sense for the MCU, as Marvel has introduced many supernatural heroes in recent years.
Adding to that, Oscar Isaac wants Moon Knight to be part of the Midnight Suns, saying, "I thought there was an interesting opportunity with Midnight Suns." Given his street-level nature, Moon Knight could also make appearances in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 or Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4. It would also make sense for Marvel to take Moon Knight's team role in What If…? season 3 and put him in one or both of the next Avengers movies. I would love to see Oscar Isaac appear in all those projects, but a TV-MA Moon Knight season 2 takes precedence.
