Summary

  • Marvel Studios is expected to make a major splash at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, with fans hoping for major reveals and announcements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • Marvel should clear the air on whether a new actor will be cast as Kang the Conqueror and his variants or if the studio will pivot to another villain for the Multiverse Saga.
  • With reports claiming that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now being referred to internally as simply Avengers 5, fans want a definitive answer regarding the movie's title and who will direct it.

Marvel Studios is coming to San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and I want to see a few major reveals and announcements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's no secret that the MCU has been having problems over the past few years. The Multiverse Saga has had quite a few ups and downs. Thankfully, things seem to be moving in a better direction, with the MCU's only movie in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine, already breaking records before release.
I'm excited for what's to come from Marvel Studios. I think Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con panel can serve to answer some questions that have gone unanswered for too long. Adding to that, we should get first looks and updates on upcoming MCU movies, which makes the event one of the most important for the studio in quite some time.

10 What’s Going On With Kang!? Jonathan Majors Is Out Close Through Disney+'s Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the MCU set up Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror and his variants to serve as the biggest threat of the Multiverse Saga. However, the actor was fired from the franchise last December after Majors' legal troubles. Since Majors was fired, Marvel Studios has not yet made any official announcement about a new actor for Kang the Conqueror and his variants, all of whom were played by Majors.
SDCC should be the place for Marvel to finally clear the air. The studio has a few possible paths to follow. If Marvel stays the course, a new actor could play all the Kangs like Majors did, or multiple actors could be cast as Kang and his variants. Marvel could also announce the studio's plans to leave Kang behind in favor of another villain for the MCU's Multiverse Saga, which I wouldn't oppose.

9 Avengers 5 Title Confusion Settled & Director Confirmed The Kang Dynasty Might Be Doomed Close With Kang the Conqueror's MCU status up in the air, one of the things I want to see Marvel give an answer to is how Avengers 5 will pan out. While there has not been an official title change to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, several reports in the past year have claimed that the movie is now being referred to internally at Marvel as simply Avengers 5. That would likely mean Kang and his variants are out or have a reduced role.
I want to see a definitive answer regarding Avengers 5's possible title change, as well as the reveal of who will direct the movie. Previously, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton was attached to the project. After Cretton left, I think it would be for the best that Marvel Studios had the same director for Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is attached to write both upcoming Avengers films.

8 Fantastic Four Costumes Or Concept Art Marvel's First Family Arrives In 2025 Close One of my most anticipated MCU movies is The Fantastic Four, which also happens to be the film that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is also the most excited about. There will be no footage from the movie shown at Comic-Con. The reason for that is The Fantastic Four will begin filming after San Diego Comic-Con, exactly a day after the event ends.
However, that does not mean that Marvel fans will necessarily be left in the dark about the movie. SDCC should bring The Fantastic Four cast together to meet fans, and I would love to see them appear in their MCU suits, which have been revealed by official concept art. Since The Fantastic Four is confirmed to have a presence at Comic-Con, I expect at least a new batch of official concept art teasing plot points or locations for the movie.
Related New Fantastic Four Movie Confirmation Sets Up The Perfect Avengers Replacement To Fight Kang In The MCU Following an exciting Fantastic Four movie reveal, a new Marvel Cinematic Universe theory explains how it can set up a major team to defeat Kang.
7 Doctor Doom Casting Announced He Has To Be In The Fantastic Four Close The Fantastic Four has cast its Galactus and Silver Surfer. With both characters in the movie, I think it is unlikely that Marvel will also have Doctor Doom play a major role. Still, Victor von Doom has appeared in every live-action entry for the team so far, and I think that will continue in some form in The Fantastic Four. With filming set to start after Comic-Con, there is no better place to announce the MCU's Doctor Doom.
There have also been reports and rumors that claim Marvel could replace Kang as the Multiverse Saga's main villain with Doctor Doom. I think that would make sense, given Doom's crucial role in the comic book event that serves as the inspiration for Avengers: Secret Wars. That increases the chances of an actor walking out on the SDCC stage fully dressed as Doctor Doom.

6 Young Avengers Movie & Cast Announced The MCU Should Get A New Kind Of Avengers Team Close While the movie has yet to be announced, there is no doubt that Marvel has been setting up a Young Avengers project. The Marvels' post-credits scene made that abundantly clear. After the MCU introduced several young heroes in the Multiverse Saga, The Marvels saw Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel recruit Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop to join the team she was forming, the Young Avengers.
Kamala Khan also mentioned Ant-Man's daughter, which means Kathryn Newton's Cassie Lang should be the next member of the team to be recruited. With so many young heroes joining the MCU, I feel Young Avengers stands as the best project to ensure that they don't fall through the cracks of the ever-expanding universe. I want SDCC to finally confirm the planned Young Avengers project and reveal what will be the team's initial lineup in the MCU.

5 Full MCU Phase 6 Lineup Revealed A Comic-Con Special Close Over the years, Marvel has had some exciting appearances at SDCC that revolved around Kevin Feige, directors, and actors appearing on stage to reveal projects in an entire Phase of the MCU. With Marvel having had some issues lately, I think the time is perfect to get fans back on board, and that could be achieved by revealing the rest of the projects that will be part of the MCU's Phase 6, with unexpected additions and perhaps long-requested films.
At the moment, only three movies in the MCU's Phase 6 have been revealed. The Fantastic Four, Avengers 5, and Avengers: Secret Wars. While Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 will likely be in it, that would be a Sony announcement. I want to see Marvel announce the return of major MCU heroes through Thor 5 and Doctor Strange 3. A solo Scarlet Witch film that explains Wanda's return from the dead and the rumored World War Hulk could make for surprising reveals that would get fans talking. A Ghost Rider movie could also help expand the MCU's supernatural side.
Related 10 MCU Changes That Created Phase 6 Problems A lot of changes have occurred over the course of the MCU"s history, and many have left a lot of problems that MCU Phase 6 will need to address.
4 MCU X-Men Movie Confirmed There Has Been Significant Movement Close In 2019, Feige mentioned Marvel's "mutants" to the applause of those at SDCC. Five years later, the MCU still has to officially announce that its first X-Men movie is in the works. That said, the project has recently taken its first major step. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes writer Michael Lesslie has been chosen to pen the script of Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men reboot.
With a writer attached to the film and Marvel Studios riding the high of Disney+'s animated X-Men '97, the timing is perfect for Feige to announce when fans can expect the X-Men to come to the MCU. Based on how Deadpool & Wolverine is bringing back actors from Fox's X-Men movies, the MCU reboot of the team should likely come only after Avengers: Secret Wars has ended the Multiverse Saga.
Related Marvel's First Major X-Men Movie Update Can Fix A 25-Year Franchise Trend Marvel Studios is moving forward with its reboot of the X-Men, and the first significant addition to the MCU movie could finally break a Fox trend.
3 Blade Movie Update The MCU Movies Has Had Many BTS Issues Close I also want to see a meaningful update of Marvel's Blade movie at San Diego Comic-Con. The project is full of issues, with its development process including multiple directors departing, villains changing, and big rewrites on the film's story. Blade's delays have seriously taken away much of my interest in the film, and with Mahershala Ali not getting any younger, the MCU's Blade actor is 50, the project itself feels at risk looking from the outside.
Like me, many Marvel fans have voiced their concerns regarding Blade's development. As such, I'm hoping that Marvel will show that the studio is listening to the fans and will clear up what the plan is for Blade moving forward. With the movie's many issues, a possible supernatural team-up film like the Midnight Sons feels far away at the moment.

2 Thunderbolts* First Look Footage Screened The MCU's Upcoming New Team Close Comic-Con usually presents unique footage from some high-profile projects to its attendees. I think the first look at Marvel's Thunderbolts* could come at the event. The movie has already finished filming, set to release in May 2025. With the upcoming MCU film coming in the Marvel slot usually reserved for enormous projects like the Avengers films, the studio has to start building hype for the new team early.
Thunderbolts*'s cast was first announced at SDCC. It would only be fitting that attendees get the chance to see footage from the upcoming MCU film, which wouldn't be shared online. As for general fans, I'm hoping we will finally get an official announcement from Marvel that Lewis Pullman is playing Sentry, perhaps with a suit reveal. I would also not complain if Daniel Brühl's Baron Zemo or other characters were revealed to appear in the film.
Related I'm Convinced Thunderbolts* Is Hiding A Villain I am excited about Marvel Studios" Thunderbolts* for many reasons, but mainly for its core cast of characters, and I think there might be a surprise.
1 Captain America: Brave New World Trailer Released The Film Sounds Epic Close Finally, Captain America: Brave New World will be the first movie to star Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson as the MCU's new Captain America. Such a big occasion deserves to have its first trailer revealed to the whole world after a SDCC debut. Footage from the film has already been screened exclusively at CinemaCon, which makes the release of a trailer at SDCC or shortly before it, to play in front of Deadpool & Wolverine, very likely.
The movie has been compared by those involved with it to Chris Evans' Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That is not only my favorite Captain America movie, but one of the films I think ranks as one of the very best in the entire shared universe. If San Diego Comic-Con debuts a Captain America movie trailer that invokes that film's thriller aspects and intense action, then the MCU's Comic-Con will be sure to make fans talk.
Marvel Cinematic Universe The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a multimedia superhero franchise that began in 2008 with Paramount's Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. The franchise quickly grew in popularity, with Disney eventually buying out Marvel Entertainment in 2009. The MCU consists of dozens of movies and TV shows, most notably Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, and Loki.
