Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief realized his destiny in Loki season 2, putting a brilliant twist on Odin's prophecy from Phase 1 of the MCU. While Hiddleston's original version of Loki embarked on a redemption arc spanning several years, and culminating in his demise in Avengers: Infinity War, his more recent variant of the Asgardian God of Mischief redeemed himself much quicker. Marvel Studios' Loki series on Disney+ saw the new variant of Loki fight against a powerful Kang the Conqueror variant to save the multiverse, becoming one of the MCU's most significant heroes.
While he still expressed some villainous tendencies in Loki season 1, the series' follow-up season transformed Loki into a bona fide hero in the MCU. After Sylvie's murder of He Who Remains destroyed the Sacred Timeline, Loki season 2 featured a mad scramble to save the entire multiverse, allowing Loki to pull off feats that would have made his Asgardian family proud. Odin’s Line In 2011’s Thor Teased The God Of Thunder Getting His Throne Although raised on Asgard under the watchful eye of Anthony Hopkins' Odin, Loki was actually born to the Frost Giant King Laufey on Jotunheim. Taken from his original family and raised alongside Thor, Loki grew up with the dream of becoming King of Asgard, but it seems this was never his true destiny. During a flashback in 2011's Thor to a time when Thor and Loki were children, Odin also expressed this sentiment, as he revealed to his sons that "only one of you can ascend to the throne, but both of you were born to be kings."
Thor would eventually become King of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok.
This quote ultimately teased Thor's own ascension to the throne of Asgard, rather than Loki's. As a true Asgardian, Odin surely would have favored Chris Hemsworth's Thor as King, while he raised Loki in the hopes that the brothers could unite the Asgardians and the Frost Giants in the future. Thor would eventually become King of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok, but relinquished this position to Valkyrie in Avengers: Endgame. However, Odin's prophecy did still come to pass, though perhaps not how anybody would have expected.
Loki Actually Ascended To The Throne In The MCU’s Phase 5 Close While Odin, and perhaps everybody else, expected Thor to become a steadfast King, it was actually Loki who ascended to the throne in Phase 5's Loki season 2. This was a burden that marked Loki's full evolution into a hero, as he abandoned any possibility of a happy life with his new friends at the Time Variance Authority, instead choosing to spend eternity guarding the branching timelines and realities of the multiverse. This was detailed during Loki season 2's emotional finale, establishing a new version of the Yggdrasil world tree in the MCU.
Loki and his TVA team had spent the entire season searching for a way to fix the Temporal Loom, a machine that created stability for the Sacred Timeline. After spending centuries attempting to fix the Loom, however, Loki realized the only way to save the multiverse would be to destroy the machine and take its place. Both Thor and Loki sacrificed a great deal to assume their positions on their thrones, though Loki is the only one capable of sitting in his, while Thor was able to pass his throne onto someone perhaps more deserving.

Loki’s Throne Makes It Possible For Him To Reunite With Thor In The MCU’s Future Ever since Loki was killed by Thanos in the opening moments of Avengers: Infinity War, there have been hopes that Marvel Studios would find a way to reunite him with his brother, the God of Thunder. Thor and Loki have always had a tumultuous relationship, but the brothers became much closer, and even became allies, in Thor: Ragnarok, just in time Loki to die. Thor is still currently unaware that a variant of his deceased brother has become the most important character in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, but this could soon change.
Tom Hiddleston recently suggested that he "can't even conceive" of a life without Loki, suggesting he is bound to return to the MCU at some point.
Loki's new role as the guardian of the multiverse, and perhaps the God of Stories, means it may be easier for him to reunite with his brother. It's possible that Loki could use his magic to project images of himself into various timelines, which he now controls. It's also very likely that Tom Hiddleston will return in Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, as his new safe multiverse may still be in danger. A reunion between Thor and Loki would certainly be an emotional affair, particularly since both brothers are now staunch heroes after Loki season 2.
