Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman’s MCU Spider-Man Movie Crossover Hopes Would Make My Biggest Marvel Dreams Come True

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds' comments about a Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover with Spider-Man make the stuff of my Marvel movie dreams one step closer to reality. The immense success of Deadpool & Wolverine has made what's possible for the MCU's future seem an even more open concept. The positive reception to the Fox universe entering the MCU multiverse makes more appearances from those in the world all the more likely, and debuts like Henry Cavill's Wolverine and Channing Tatum's Gambit only further this idea.
With this in mind, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman discussing how promising a Spider-Man crossover would be makes the idea feel far more likely to come to fruition than it would have in years prior. Though the upcoming MCU release slate is a busy one, I can't help but think that this would be an automatic success for the franchise were it to allow these hopes to become real. It's hard to ignore that all three of these characters star in $1B+ superhero movies, meaning it's a move that could seriously pay off in a very literal sense.

Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman's Spider-Man Crossover Comments Would Be My Marvel Movie Dream Bringing Spider-Man Alongside The Marvel Movie Duo Is A Natural Win Close During the press tour for Deadpool & Wolverine, both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman expressed an interest in having their Marvel movie characters crossover with Spider-Man. In an interview with Marvel Thailand, when asked if they could choose one more MCU hero to join their team, Reynolds responded by stating, "If I could pick one, I’d love to play with Spider-Man. That would be cool. Tom Holland is amazing." Hugh Jackman agreed, adding, "He’s so cool. That would be great. And he’s young. We could pile on him and abuse him. You know, just yell at him."
As someone who grew up reading the Deadpool and Spider-Man comics – as well as Deadpool and Wolverine to boot – this concept is one that's hard to not be incredibly excited about, especially taking into account the acting talents of all three figures who would be involved in this scenario. Given the box office success of both Deadpool & Wolverine and the MCU Spider-Man series, bringing the trio together is a concept that seems especially possible based on how financially lucrative it clearly has the potential to be, making the comments feel as though they have some real potential to come to life.
Beyond that, though, the story potential it offers is immeasurable. While Deadpool, Wolverine and Spider-Man are each very different characters, this offers the opportunity for them to grow through their interactions, and adds more interesting dynamics to the stories they interact in. This is especially true when it comes to Spider-Man interacting with Deadpool or Wolverine – or both – since Wade and Logan's origin stories and powers are similar, even if their general outlooks often aren't. As such, the MCU capitalizing on the hype around all three figures by bringing them together also offers unique narrative potential.
This idea is one loosely hinted at in the third Deadpool movie itself, as while the film doesn't directly feature Peter Parker, Deadpool & Wolverine has several Spider-Man references, with Deadpool mimicking his webshooter pose – as well as mirroring Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man dodging Flash in the 2002 Spider-Man fight – and the scene in Happy Hogan's Avengers office containing what appears to be a picture of Peter and Tony Stark, albeit one concealed partially by an Iron Man mask.
Having An MCU Crossover Movie With Spider-Man, Deadpool & Wolverine Would Be Perfect For The Franchise Right Now Spider-Man's Current Story Makes A Crossover With Deadpool And Wolverine More Viable Than Ever Close Given Deadpool & Wolverine continues the kind of R-rated action inherently associated with the Merc With A Mouth's movie series, it might initially seem as though the trio would be unable to interact or have their own crossover movie due to the more family-friendly nature of Peter Parker's MCU releases. However, Spider-Man's story in Spider-Man: No Way Home ended on a note that sets up more mature stories for his future, as Peter is an isolated young adult without most of the people he'd come to rely on in prior years and installments.
This has been hotly theorized to make some darker crossover possibilities more tangible, with the potential of Spider-Man teaming up with Daredevil to defeat Kingpin or meeting the Venom symbiote so the MCU can adapt the symbiote suit storyline being heavily discussed. This kind of chapter of Spider-Man's life would thus be the potentially perfect point for him to meet heroes like Deadpool and Wolverine, as this would bring a more mature type of story into play, but still allow the franchise to very much keep leaning into the comedic moments and notes that Spider-Man has so commonly.
Deadpool & Wolverine itself even teases at the idea somewhat, as Chris Evans' appearance in the film – only for his character to be swiftly murdered in short order by having all of his skin removed – makes it clear that the MCU isn't afraid of letting its actors have some more mature moments. While this is different in the sense that Chris Evans plays Johnny Storm, not Steve Rogers, in the movie – and Rogers' own story appears to have ended concretely with Avengers: Endgame, meaning his return is with altered context – it still sets a precedent that could allow for a crossover movie between Spider-Man and the duo.
Spider-Man's Comic History Makes A Deadpool & Wolverine Crossover Movie Even More Possible The MCU Has Plenty Of Comic Stories To Be Inspired By Close Spider-Man and Deadpool have an extensive comic history that goes back decades. The most notable aspect of this history is that of their joint stories, as the Deadpool/Spider-Man series ran for several years and fifty issues, and giving the duo a considerable arc that managed to balance being surprisingly emotional alongside making some of its silliest jokes.
While less well known compared to the Deadpool and Spider-Man crossover run, Spider-Man and Wolverine have also had their own crossover stories, with Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine running from 2010 to 2011. As two of the most popular Marvel characters in their own right, it makes a lot of sense for the pair to get their own joint series, and it's especially notable how different Spider-Man's interactions with Deadpool and Wolverine respectively are, highlighting the potential in placing all three together on the big screen.
As such, there's a real wealth of stories here that I think the MCU would be spot-on to try and explore in some format, and with Deadpool and Wolverine's stories now already tied together – and the chemistry between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds already so successful – adding Spider-Man into the mix seems like a surefire recipe for success. Whatever the case may end up being, hopefully the Marvel Cinematic Universe lets Reynolds and Jackman's crossover comments become a reality one day in the future.
