Summary

  • Channing Tatum's Gambit is theorized to still be in the Void, setting up future MCU appearances.
  • The MCU's Multiverse may explore the Void in upcoming projects, possibly leading to Gambit's return.
  • Tatum's Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine showcases the potential for further exploration of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now rife with opportunities planted by the film, including ones for Channing Tatum's Gambit in a new theory. Gambit was one of the most beloved cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, appearing in the Void alongside Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and Dafne Keen's X-23. With Tatum having been cast in the role back in 2014, seeing this iteration of Gambit, who never received a film of his own, was one of the most rewarding parts of the latest MCU adventure.
Following the events of the film and its countless Deadpool easter eggs, there appear to be many paths forward for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the credits scene suggested an ending for the entire Fox side of the Marvel Universe, it also left things fairly open-ended. While Deadpool and Wolverine have been given a chance to live the rest of their lives on Earth-10005, this ending was not given to all of the characters in the film. A curious conclusion gives some hope for the character of Gambit in the MCU.

2 Channing Tatum’s Deadpool & Wolverine Gambit Credits Theory Explained Remy LeBeau Seems To Be Still Stuck In The Void Close A new theory from Channing Tatum himself suggests that Gambit is still alive and stuck in the Void. Deadpool & Wolverine has some notable post-credit scenes, and Channing Tatum has addressed what happened to Gambit in them in his opinion, stating he believes the character remains in the Void. This is based on footage of Gambit seen in the TVA headquarters at the end of the film; Gambit can be seen on a TV screen while Deadpool reviews the footage of Johnny Storm. Following this, it makes sense that Gambit could still be in the Void and could tie into future MCU stories.
Details of the MCU's Multiversal travel and relationships can get a bit hazy and messy between projects, but all of this shows that this Gambit is seemingly still out there. While the MCU works toward an X-Men reboot, there are possibilities that stories could go into the Void in the future, or that characters like Gambit could escape from the Void and into other Marvel projects. Considering Tatum's passion for the character, it seems he is eager to reappear as the character.

1 Why Gambit Staying In The MCU's Void Would Make A Return More Possible The Void May Figure Into Future Marvel Stories Including Avengers: Secret Wars Close Stories involving the TVA are bound to continue after Deadpool & Wolverine. Following the events of that film and both seasons of Loki, the Multiversal police force appears to still be operational and, even after the confrontation with Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine, characters like B-15 and their place in the TVA seem to be important to the upcoming Multiversal stories. As the universe builds up to Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems there will be many opportunities for stories to return to the Void in upcoming projects.
Following this, there are even theories that Secret Wars will use the Void instead of Battleworld. This could make sense for the film and give a barren location that could easily be loaded with heroes and villains from all corners of the Marvel Multiverse. Gambit already being there would make his return simple, as could the reappearance of many other characters from the rest of Marvel's history. By tying the Void into the larger MCU story, the universe would feel even more cohesive.

2 Why Channing Tatum's Gambit Needs To Return In The MCU Tatum's Gambit Was Originally Intended To Be So Much More Than Just A Cameo Close Channing Tatum's Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine is proof of concept for an MCU version of the character. Outfitted in a comics-accurate outfit, the character would fit nicely into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has worked hard to make their characters' costumes look both realistic and faithful to the comic books. While this suggests good things for whatever actor is ultimately cast to take on the role in the MCU reboot, there is much more to explore in Channing Tatum's Gambit that could contribute to the universe.
Clearly audiences have responded well to the Deadpool & Wolverine version of the Gambit character, and the celebrated performer is more than willing to return for more appearances in the role. After years of development on a Gambit solo film for Tatum, there is also a large library of ideas for things that could be done with this version of the character.

Exploring Gambit's status in the MCU could be an excellent way to revisit the character in the future. Whether in a small or a large role, further appearances by Tatum as the character would be an excellent way to use Gambit soon. While the role is sure to be recast eventually with another star, Deadpool & Wolverine has clearly shown there is great further potential for Tatum to continue on as Gambit for some time to come.
