Summary

  • "Like a Prayer" enhanced both Deadpool & Wolverine and Loki season 2's sacrifice scenes.
  • The choral version of the song added emotional depth to Loki's sacrifice in the temporal radiation storm.
  • Deadpool, Wolverine and Loki all sacrifice themselves for the multiverse, showing virtuous intentions.

Deadpool & Wolverine's use of Madonna's "Like a Prayer" was enough to induce chills, but now an MCU fan has demonstrated how the song works just as well in Loki season 2's sacrifice scene. Madonna's iconic "Like a Prayer" was used for the trailer and twice in the final act of Deadpool & Wolverine. It became the most important song on the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack, as the movie's climax saw the two team up to defeat the entire Deadpool Corps and then ostensibly sacrifice themselves hand-in-hand to save the entire multiverse.
The spine-tingling reprisal used a choral version of the song, which TikTok creator @saviourloki proved works just as perfectly with the final sequence of Loki season 2.
This sequence saw Loki recognize his ability to save the multiverse before bidding a tearful farewell to his friends, walking into a temporal radiation storm, and destroying the temporal loom before seizing hold of and giving life to entire timelines with his bare hands. The original moment was emotional enough, but is significantly enhanced by the choral version of "Like a Prayer" echoing in the background.

6 Why Deadpool & Wolverine's "Like A Prayer" Scene Is Just As Special As Loki's Sacrifice All Parties Saved The Multiverse Close Deadpool & Wolverine deploys a reprise of "Like a Prayer" in a sequence that sees Deadpool and Wolverine overload the time ripper that Cassandra Nova is using in an attempt to destroy the multiverse. After learning that they must form a circuit with their bodies, but almost certainly die in the process, the two heroes fight over who should make the sacrifice before realizing that it must be both. They then join hands (complete with the inexplicable disintegration of Wolverine's shirt) and confront death together for the sake of the multiverse.
In the Loki season 2 ending, the character's sacrifice play sees him face an eternity of loneliness as he acts as a living temporal loom to spare countless lives and ensure free will can thrive. Deadpool and Wolverine, meanwhile, were willing to face oblivion itself for largely the same reasons. In both instances, the moment is compounded by the fact that a time-slipping Loki and the two heroes with healing factors are ostensibly immortal, only for them to accept their fates nonetheless. The moments also occur off the back of these characters all believing themselves to be unworthy of love.
Spider-Man makes a similar sacrifice for the sake of his reality as he directs Doctor Strange to cast a spell so everybody forgets who Peter Parker is in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
While Deadpool and Wolverine would go on to survive the ordeal, their intentions were just as virtuous as Loki's. They also become the latest MCU heroes to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the multiverse, which is an accolade that few other MCU stalwarts have thus far attained – though that probably won't remain the case for much longer. In any case, Deadpool & Wolverine has afforded the titular characters the chance to get a foot in the door with their more overtly virtuous counterparts on Earth-616 and beyond, which the Avengers-loving Deadpool will surely appreciate.
