Summary

  • Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom could kill the Council of Kangs to introduce himself
  • The new Avengers might defeat the Council of Kangs in an epic opening battle.
  • The Council of Kangs could serve Doctor Doom and be eliminated when Battleworld is created.

Kang the Conqueror is seemingly out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the franchise could still use the Council of Kangs, with there being a few possible ways of killing the team that would set up Doctor Doom and more. Jonathan Majors is out as the MCU's Kang. The actor played multiple Kang variants in Disney+'s Loki, then appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as Kang the Conqueror himself. The movie's post-credits scene saw the debut of the Council of Kangs, a multiverse team of Kang variants that was expected to be the threat of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
However, due to Majors' firing, Marvel went back to the drawing board. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has turned into Avengers: Doomsday, with Robert Downey Jr. set to play Doctor Doom. The move was recently announced at San Diego Comic-Con, with no mention of what Marvel would do with Kang the Conqueror or the Council of Kangs. While the MCU's future movies, like the Avengers films and the Fantastic Four reboot, could simply ignore the Kang setup, there are a few better ways to make the transition seamless, killing the Council of Kangs to prop up Doctor Doom and the Avengers.

2 RDJ's Doctor Doom Could Kill The Council Of Kangs The Best Scenario For The MCU's New Main Villain Close Using the Council of Kangs, even if only for a brief role, would be better than just ignoring the team's existence altogether. The MCUs Multiverse Saga spent a long time setting up Kang the Conqueror and his variants across multiple projects. While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ended up falling short of expectations, there was still excitement to see how the Avengers would come together to take on the Council of Kangs. So, instead of pretending that the story did not happen, Marvel Studios could have Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom kill the Council of Kangs in his MCU debut.
After seeing how much of a threat Kang and his variants could be, fans would surely be shocked to see Doctor Doom enter the picture and make quick work of the thousands of Kang variants shown in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's post-credits scene. The moment could take place in one of two upcoming movies. RDJ's Doctor Doom will reportedly debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The villain is said to appear in the Fantastic Four reboot's mid/post-credits scene, with Ralph Ineson's Galactus being the main villain the team will face in the movie itself.
It is all but confirmed that The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place in a different universe. Perhaps trying to escape Galactus, RDJ's Doctor Doom could end up making his way across the multiverse right to the Council of Kangs — all variants recast with new actors — with Doom murdering the Kangs after finding out about the multiverse and the power he could wield. Likewise, Doctor Doom's decimation of the Council of Kangs could be the opening sequence of 2026's Avengers: Doomsday, establishing his immense power and setting up a dark tone for the movie like Avengers: Infinity War's opening did.

5 The New Avengers Could Take Out The Council Of Kangs In Avengers: Doomsday's Intro An Incursion Starts The Movie Close Instead of RDJ's Doctor Doom killing the Council of Kangs to set a dark tone for the movie, Avengers: Doomsday could start on a positive note, with the Avengers saving the day. While there is a chance the new Avengers will be slowly put together throughout Avengers: Doomsday's first act, the team might already be set up in a prior film. Captain America: Brave New World footage has revealed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross asks Anthony Mackie's Captain America to assemble a new Avengers team, and the roster could be teased at the end of the 2025 movie.
That would free Avengers: Doomsday's opening to go all out with Earth's Mightiest Heroes on a mission. Similarly to Avengers: Age of Ultron's opening scene, the new movie could see the team fight the Council of Kangs together after the villains started an incursion that threatened Earth-616. A major action sequence that culminates with the Council of Kangs being eliminated would start Avengers: Doomsday on a euphoric note, propping up the MCU's new Avengers. It would also make the reveal of RDJ's Doctor Doom as a serious threat even bigger, as the Avengers thought they had already saved the day.

3 The Council Of Kangs Could Work For Doctor Doom & Die When Battleworld Is Created A Bigger Role For The Multiverse Team Close Marvel could also repurpose the Council of Kangs. RDJ's Doctor Doom could find himself in front of the team, as mentioned before, but instead of killing the Kangs, Doom could become their ruler. While Jonathan Majors used to play all the MCU's Kang variants, Avengers: Doomsday could bring in multiple actors to give life to the Council of Kangs, using a mix of newcomers and known stars. That way, the team would draw a lot of attention. The Council of Kangs working for Downey's Doctor Doom would be the perfect way to tie together both Multiverse Saga main villains.
After Avengers: Doomsday, Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom will once again take on the MCU's heroes in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, the Council of Kangs could not follow him there. The Kangs could be used in a supporting role in Avengers: Doomsday, being sent by Doom to fight against heroes on multiple fronts, creating several incursions that would end up leading to Doctor Doom's creation of Battleworld. The planet was created by Doom in the comics as his kingdom, with several Marvel locations and characters put together. Victorious, Doom would have no use for the Council of Kangs, letting them die.

Loki Season 2 Gives The MCU An Out For The Kang Problem Marvel Has A Way To Keep Further Kang Mentions Minimal Close Finally, if Marvel wants to truly move on from Kang the Conqueror and the Council of Kangs, then the MCU already has the perfect explanation for why both could be absent from Avengers: Doomsday. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ended with Majors' Kang seemingly dying as he was sucked into his Multiversal Engine Core. While that was likely only supposed to be a fake death for Kang initially, with Majors out, Marvel could simply make it stick, removing Kang the Conqueror from the equation.
As for the Council of Kangs, Loki season 2 provides the MCU with the ideal way to remove the team. At the end of the series, it was revealed that the TVA was aware of Kang the Conqueror's actions in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and that the TVA was monitoring all Kang variants across the multiverse. A couple of lines of dialogue from one of the TVA's members at the start of Avengers: Doomsday could reveal that the team slowly took out all of the Kang variants. That would allow Marvel to quickly move on from Kang the Conqueror.
