Several Marvel Comics characters from the world of Spider-Man could be used in both Marvel Studios' MCU and Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Sony Pictures bought the film rights to Spider-Man and his related characters in 1999 for $7 million, and the wall-crawler has since become the most popular live-action character in any Marvel movie franchise. The film rights split meant that Sony Pictures could develop franchises featuring Spider-Man, while Marvel Studios unraveled the MCU without the fan-favorite teen hero. A 2015 deal between Sony and Disney allowed Tom Holland to debut as Spider-Man in the MCU, while Sony also began developing a franchise based on Spider-Man's iconic villains from Marvel Comics.
After Sony's previous attempts at developing Spider-Man franchises died out after 2007's Spider-Man 3 and 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the deal between Sony and Marvel Studios brought arguably the most comic-accurate depiction of Peter Parker into the MCU. While Tom Holland embarked on Spider-Man storylines in the MCU, Sony began development on their own franchise featuring Spider-Man-related characters from Marvel Comics, including Venom, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. Despite being separate, several important characters in Spider-Man's stories have already crossed over between the two franchises, and even more could be shared in the future to solidify an even stronger bond between the MCU and Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

If Marvel Studios and Sony decide to share Keaton's Vulture, it's possible that Morbius' plot hole can be solved, potentially bringing more context to the divisive 2022 project, and providing more brilliant Vulture action as a prominent member of Marvel Comics' Sinister Six.

Venom Tom Hardy Has Portrayed Eddie Brock In The MCU & SSU Close Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock has been the cornerstone of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, debuting in the franchise's first project, 2018's Venom, and already having embarked on a sequel with Venom: Let There Be Carnage with a third film in development. Marvel Comics' Venom was previously used as a villain in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, but Hardy's version of the alien symbiote is widely regarded as a strong adaptation of the character. Hardy appeared at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and left a piece of the Venom symbiote in the MCU, potentially hinting at Venom being used in both the MCU and Sony's Spider-Man Universe.
Peter Parker first sported the Venom Spider-Man suit in Marvel Comics' Secret Wars event in 1984, leading to speculation that Tom Holland's Peter Parker could bond with the symbiote in 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.
8 Cassandra Webb, A.K.A. Madame Web Dakota Johnson Will Portray Cassandra Webb In 2024's Madame Web Development on Sony's Madame Web film started in 2019, with the project set to release as part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe in February 2024. Marvel Comics' Cassandra Webb is a prominent mutant with precognitive abilities, so would be an excellent addition to the MCU as the franchise begins to shift its focus onto more mutant characters and the X-Men. Nevertheless, Madame Web should still be a central character to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, particularly since her storyline could connect to several different Spider-People across the multiverse. Dakota Johnson's version of the character has the opportunity to crossover into the MCU following her debut in Madame Web.
7 Miles Morales, A.K.A. Spider-Man A Live-Action Miles Morales Film Has Been Teased Following his Marvel Comics debut in 2011, Miles Morales became a fan-favorite character, and there have been calls for him to appear in live-action, particularly after the huge success of Sony's animated Spider-Verse franchise. Miles Morales is a teen from an alternate reality – the Ultimate Marvel universe – who becomes Spider-Man after being bitten by a radioactive spider. In recent months, a live-action Miles Morales-centric project has been teased by Sony, and it would be great for the character to debut in Sony's Spider-Man Universe before making the move to the MCU to interact with Tom Holland's Peter Parker, potentially following 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.
Miles Morales' Uncle Aaron appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, portrayed by Donald Glover, who reprised the role in 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, now sporting the iconic Prowler suit.
6 Felicia Hardy, A.K.A. Black Cat A Black Cat Project Was Previously Planned At Sony Felicia Hardy's Black Cat is a minor antagonist and love-interest to Peter Parker, and after Felicity Jones portrayed the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony planned for the character to appear in a team-up movie with Silver Sable in Silver & Black. This project currently finds itself in development hell, which makes it possible for Hardy to appear in the MCU and in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Following Spider-Man: No Way Home, Black Cat could be introduced to the MCU to add layers to Spider-Man's storyline, and since there have been talks of reworking Silver & Black as a Sony TV series, it's possible she could reside in both franchises.
5 Sergei Kravinoff, A.K.A. Kraven The Hunter Aaron Taylor-Johnson Will Portray Kraven The Hunter In 2024 Close After appearing as Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. Quicksilver, in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to debut as Sergei Kravinoff, a.k.a. Kraven the Hunter, in the eponymous project in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man's most formidable, long-lasting and terrifying villains in Marvel Comics, so deserves to face the wall-crawler in his live-action future. Currently, the only way it will be possible for their iconic battles to unfold on-screen would be for Sony and Marvel Studios to share the villain, and while this may cause some confusion with Taylor-Johnson's double-casting, it would be great to see Kraven and Tom Holland's Spider-Man go head-to-head.
4 Norman Osborn, A.K.A. Green Goblin Willem Dafoe Portrayed Norman Osborn In Previous Sony Projects & The MCU Norman Osborn's Green Goblin is perhaps Spider-Man's most memorable and legendary foe, meaning the Marvel Comics villain has been adapted into live-action several times. Willem Dafoe delivered perhaps the most powerful performance as Osborn in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and returned to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so a version of the Green Goblin has already existed in the MCU. As a prominent member of the Sinister Six, it's likely a new version of the villain will be introduced to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, and since the MCU's official Norman Osborn hasn't yet been introduced, it would make sense for the character to be shared between the two franchises.
A version of Norman Osborn will be featured in Marvel Studios' animated Spider-Man: Freshman Year series, but the MCU's official Green Goblin hasn't yet made an appearance in live-action.
3 Gwen Stacy Bryce Dallas Howard & Emma Stone Portrayed Gwen Stacy In Sony's Previous Spider-Man Projects After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Zendaya's future as the MCU's MJ is uncertain, creating the opportunity for a new love-interest to be introduced for Tom Holland's Peter Parker. It would make sense for this character to be Gwen Stacy, who was previously portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3 and Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. With no sign of an actual Spider-Man in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, Gwen Stacy could also be introduced to that franchise as her version of Spider-Woman (though this could strike up comparisons with Spider-Verse's Gwen Stacy), allowing the character to exist in both the MCU and SSU simultaneously.
2 Jessica Drew, A.K.A. Spider-Woman Issa Rae Voices Jessica Drew In The Spider-Verse Franchise Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman made her cinematic debut in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, voiced by Issa Rae and set outside both the MCU and Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Despite Rae's iteration of the character set to return in Beyond the Spider-Verse and her Spider-Woman spinoff, a live-action version should be introduced to the adjacent franchises, too. In Marvel Comics, Jessica Drew is a prominent member of the Avengers, as well as having a history with HYDRA that would be interesting to explore in the MCU. With Sony's Spider-Man Universe expanding, Jessica Drew would also make a strong addition to Sony's franchise, and could create links to a wide variety of other Spider-People.

Spider-Man Tom Holland Could Crossover Into Sony's Spider-Man Universe Close Perhaps the most pivotal character to both the MCU and SSU's Spider-Man storylines in Spider-Man himself, yet he has, so far, only appeared in Marvel Studios' franchise. Tom Holland has portrayed Peter Parker's Spider-Man since 2016's Captain America: Civil War, and has become a central figure in the MCU since then. Despite being mentioned in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, there has been no crossover for the wall-crawler, though Holland has been speculated to be making the jump to the SSU in the future. Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 4 is in development, which could potentially establish a stronger connection between the MCU and Sony's Spider-Man​​​​​​​ Universe.
