Director Yann Demange confirmed Marvel's Blade movie will be rated R. There have been many production issues surrounding the creative efforts behind Marvel's new Blade movie, the upcoming reboot that will bring the famous vampire hunter to the MCU. The character was first portrayed by Wesley Snipes, but now Mahershala Ali will lead the Blade movie cast. While Kevin Feige has remained adamant that Deadpool 3 will be the first R-rated film within the MCU, it seems the second won't be far behind.
In an interview with Deadline, Demange discussed Blade, which was recently in the news over reports that the film faced a creative overhaul due to dissatisfaction with the script. While the Lovecraft Country director kept details vague, he revealed Blade will be rated R, saying, "They gave me the R, which is so important." Demange continued by saying he is excited to work with Ali and reveal a fiercer side to the actor that hasn't been seen yet.
For Blade, we are going to have fun because Mahershala is such a deep actor. I’m excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for that. He’s got a dignity and integrity, but there is a ferocity there that he usually keeps under the surface. I want to unleash that and put it on the screen.
