Summary

  • Secret Invasion being an Avengers movie would have been more comic-accurate, with the involvement of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the full-blown invasion of the Skrulls.
  • The six-episode format of the Disney+ series limited the opportunity to explore the epic Marvel Comics storyline and resulted in the loss of drama and higher stakes.
  • The disappointing performance of Secret Invasion could have been avoided if it had been delivered as an Avengers crossover film, providing a bigger scale and a more thoughtful ending.

A fan poster reimagines Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion as an Avengers-level crossover event, rather than a smaller-scale series for Disney+. Secret Invasion premiered on Disney+ on June 21, 2023, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU, and despite being highly-anticipated, was met with a great deal of criticism, becoming one of the MCU's lowest-rated projects. Samuel L. Jackson returned as former SHIELD Director Nick Fury in Secret Invasion, facing the threat of a rebellious faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who planned to kill off humanity to claim the Earth for their own, but even the espionage and more personal themes of Secret Invasion left viewers wanting so much more from the series.
After Secret Invasion's release, many pondered whether the Phase 5 series might have been better being delivered as an Avengers crossover film, which would have given the project a bigger scale. A fan poster shared by spideyvegas imagines what this might have looked like, bringing back several past Avengers including Tony Stark's Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Thor in a battle against the Skrulls.
Shared in April 2020, the fan poster imagined a different story for Secret Invasion long before the series premiered. With the poster titling the project Avengers: The Secret Invasion, this version of Secret Invasion could have avoided many of the complaints garnered by the Disney+ series.
