Jackson returned as former SHIELD Director Nick Fury in Secret Invasion, facing the threat of a rebellious faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who planned to kill off humanity to claim the Earth for their own, but even the espionage and more personal themes of Secret Invasion left viewers wanting so much more from the series.
