WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Secret Invasion episode 1.
Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion is off to a thrilling start, with the Disney+ series leaving fans stunned after episode 1's shocking ending. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is front and center in the new show, as the character comes back to Earth, after Fury spent years in space, to help Maria Hill and Talos stop a Skrull invasion of the planet. Secret Invasion episode 1 did a great job of introducing the main story and its characters, playing up the fact that anyone could be a Skrull due to the aliens' shape-shifting powers.
The Skrulls' powers led to Secret Invasion episode 1's shocking ending, with the Skrulls' leader, Gravik, impersonating Nick Fury and shooting Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill in the stomach. The episode ended with a shot of Maria Hill seemingly dead on the ground as blood poured from her bullet wound. Hill has been Fury's most trusted ally since 2012's The Avengers, with Smulders appearing in a supporting role over the years. Secret Invasion seemed like the perfect project to develop Maria Hill after all this time, only for her to die in episode 1. On Twitter, Marvel fans were shocked by Maria Hill's Secret Invasion death. Check out several reactions below:
Did Secret Invasion Really Just Kill Maria Hill? Secret Invasion focuses on the same thriller feel that Captain America: The Winter Soldier introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In that movie, Nick Fury appeared to be dead, only for the character to reveal that he had faked his death. Maria Hill could theoretically be repeating that scenario on Secret Invasion, with Fury not knowing of the character's agenda, something that makes sense given the series' conspiracy plot.
