Summary

  • Deadpool 3's production has been affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, causing delays and a halt in filming.
  • Despite initial attempts to proceed with filming, Reynolds was not legally allowed to make script changes or improvise on set, limiting the creative process.
  • The threequel was halfway through shooting before the shutdown, but the goal is to maintain an R-rating and create anticipation for Deadpool's journey into the MCU.

With five years already gone since the character was last on the big screen, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has shared a new image with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as they wait to get back to filming. Levy is reuniting with both his Free Guy and Reel Steel stars for the long-awaited threequel, which also will mark the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts of Deadpool and Jackman's Wolverine after they were previously set in Fox's concluded X-Men universe. Production on Deadpool 3 kicked off in early 2023 after a lengthy four-year development, though has hit some snags in the months since.
As the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike passes its tenth week, Shawn Levy took to his Instagram story to share a new photo with Reynolds and Jackman.
The image from the Deadpool 3 director, as seen above, features him and his two stars situated in what appears to be Levy's home enjoying a meal together. A caption in the photo itself describes the trio as "three amigos waiting to shoot again…", clearly stating their eagerness to get back to filming the superhero threequel.
How Deadpool 3 Has Been Affected By The WGA And SAG-AFTRA Strikes The Writer's Guild of America first went on strike in May 2023 followed by SAG-AFTRA in July, both of which were calling for fairer pay, better job security in the wake of studio interest in artificial intelligence, and a better system to determine residuals from streaming numbers. These strikes have led to a number of high-profile productions either being delayed or shut down entirely, ranging from the already truncated A League of Their Own season 2 to the MCU's Blade reboot.
